Igashuk Shrine — Ice and Balance

Location: Rimewise (Hebra rim / Akkala border), northeast mountains Ability Required: Ultrahand, Ascend Difficulty: Hard — multi-mechanic puzzle in extreme cold

Overview

Igashuk Shrine sits in the frigid Rimewise region at the border of Hebra and Akkala. The puzzle combines ice platform navigation, Ultrahand construction, and Ascend traversal across multiple cold rooms. One of the more complex non-combat shrines.

Preparation

  • Cold-resistant gear (Level 3): The Rimewise region is extreme cold — you need either Snowquill Armor fully upgraded OR Spicy Elixir + Snowquill combo to survive the approach
  • Inside the shrine: temperature-neutral
  • No combat
  • Takes 12–15 minutes

Walkthrough

Room 1 — Frozen Ramp

  1. The floor is an ice sheet that slopes downward. A wooden board sits near the entrance.
  2. Use Ultrahand to angle the wooden board as a ramp against the uphill wall — lean it at roughly 45 degrees.
  3. Run up the ramp to the upper ledge. The ice floor is too slippery to climb without a ramp.

Room 2 — Ice Block Staircase

  1. Five ice blocks are scattered around a tall room with the exit ledge near the ceiling.
  2. Use Ultrahand to stack ice blocks into a staircase against the wall — wide at the base, narrowing toward the top.
  3. Climb your ice staircase. At the top, use Ascend through the ceiling to reach the platform above.

Room 3 — Moving Ice Platforms

  1. Three ice platforms drift slowly in a circle around a central pillar. The exit is on the far side of the pillar.
  2. Board a platform as it passes your starting ledge. Ride it 180 degrees around the pillar and jump to the exit ledge when it comes near.
  3. The platforms don't stop — timing your jump off is critical.

Room 4 — Freeze and Cross

  1. The final room has a large water channel between you and the altar. A cold mechanism on the wall can freeze the water into solid ice.
  2. Use Ultrahand to grab the mechanism's wheel and rotate it — the water below freezes solid, creating a walkable ice bridge.
  3. Cross the ice bridge to the altar.

Collect your Light of Blessing.

Tips

  • Ice is slippery: When walking on ice floors (Rooms 1, 3, 4), move slowly and don't sprint — sprinting on ice sends Link sliding and you'll overshoot jumps.
  • Staircase width: Make the base of your ice staircase at least 2 blocks wide for stability. A single-column tower will collapse when you try to climb it.
  • Platform boarding timing: In Room 3, the platform passes your ledge roughly every 8 seconds. Jump at the last moment as it comes by — jumping early misses it, jumping late lands short.
  • Ascend through ice: Ascend works through ice blocks and ice floors as well as stone — useful in Room 2.
  • Cold approaching the shrine: The Rimewise region at night is particularly deadly cold. Approach during the day when possible, and use every Spicy Pepper meal or elixir you have.
