Jiosin Shrine — Shape Rotation

Location: Central Hyrule, near Lookout Landing Ability Required: Ultrahand Difficulty: Medium — 3D rotation and shape-matching puzzle

Overview

Jiosin Shrine is a shape-rotation puzzle — you must rotate a 3D object to match a specific profile and pass it through a shaped hole in a wall. Think of it as a 3D key and keyhole: the key is a complex shape, and you must rotate it on all three axes until it aligns with the keyhole opening.

Preparation

  • No combat
  • No special gear
  • Takes 8–12 minutes — spatial reasoning required

Walkthrough

Room 1 — Square Peg, Square Hole

  1. A cross-shaped stone block hangs in the center of the room. A cross-shaped hole is in the far wall.
  2. The block is currently oriented sideways — it won't fit through the hole.
  3. Use Ultrahand to grab the block and rotate it. Rotate around the horizontal axis until the cross profile aligns with the cross hole.
  4. Push the block through the hole. It passes through and triggers the gate switch on the far side.

Room 2 — L-Shape

  1. An L-shaped block needs to fit through an L-shaped hole. The block is upside-down relative to the hole.
  2. Use Ultrahand to flip the block 180 degrees on the vertical axis — the L-shape now mirrors the hole orientation.
  3. Slide the block through the hole.

Room 3 — Complex Shape

  1. The final room has a T-shape with an extra appendage — irregular and tricky.
  2. Examine both the block profile and the hole profile carefully before rotating. They share only one valid orientation.
  3. Rotate the block until all appendages align with the hole's cutouts. This may require rotating on multiple axes simultaneously.
  4. Push through to activate the altar gate.

Tips

  • Visualize the profile: Before rotating, look at the block from multiple angles to understand its 3D shape. Then look at the hole's shape. Identify the matching orientation.
  • One axis at a time: Don't try to rotate on all three axes simultaneously. Rotate on the Z axis first, then X, then Y — systematic rotation finds the solution faster.
  • The block can bounce back: If the block hits the wall around the hole, it bounces back. This doesn't damage the block or reset the puzzle — just reposition and try again.
  • Room 3 visual hint: There are faint markings on the wall around the hole showing which direction the shape appendages point. Use these as a guide if stuck.
  • Chest in Room 2: After pushing the L-block through, a chest is accessible on the far side of the hole wall. Slip through alongside the block to grab it.
