Magda Shrine
Magda Shrine — Cart Track Puzzle
Location: Eldin Region, Death Mountain eastern slope Coordinates: 1837, 2691, 0458 Abilities Required: Ultrahand Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Magda Shrine teaches the core mechanics of mine cart + rail track puzzles — a recurring element in Eldin region content. You must place a cart onto rails and ride it across lava gaps that can't be crossed on foot. The cart's momentum is generated either by Ultrahand push or by the sloped track itself. Two separate cart sections test initial placement and advanced routing to reach a hidden chest before the altar.
Location Details
The shrine sits on Death Mountain's eastern slope, above the main lava fields and accessible from the Eldin Canyon road. From Death Mountain Skyview Tower, launch and glide east-southeast — the shrine marker appears at coordinates 1837, 2691 on the lower volcanic plateau. Flamebreaker Armor or a Fireproof Elixir is required for the approach — the lava fields adjacent to the shrine deal fire damage without flame guard protection.
Preparation
- Flamebreaker Armor (2+ pieces) or a Fireproof Elixir — mandatory for Eldin approach
- Ultrahand required (all cart puzzles)
- No combat inside — no weapon preparation needed
Detailed Walkthrough
Room 1 — Initial Cart Placement
- Enter the first room. A mine cart sits on the floor beside a raised set of rail tracks that span a lava gap.
- Use Ultrahand to grab the cart. Lift it vertically, then maneuver it horizontally to align with the tracks.
- Lower the cart slowly onto the tracks — it needs to seat on both rails simultaneously. Listen for a "thunk" sound indicating successful track contact.
- Once seated, walk into the rear of the cart to give it momentum, or use Ultrahand to push it forward from behind.
- Jump into the cart as it begins moving. The sloped track carries it across the first lava gap automatically.
- Ride to the far platform and step out.
Room 2 — Side Track Chest Route
- The second room has a Y-junction in the tracks: one path leads to the altar, the other to a side platform with a chest.
- Use Ultrahand to lift the cart and place it on the side track branch (the one that diverges from the main path).
- Ride the side track to the elevated platform. Step out and open the Treasure Chest — common contents: a Spiked Moblin Shield, Strong Zonaite weapon, or material pack.
- After collecting: lift the cart with Ultrahand and place it on the main track back at the junction.
- Ride the main track forward to the altar platform.
Room 3 — Momentum Cart (If Applicable)
If the shrine has a third cart section with a steeper slope:
- Place the cart at the top of the slope's highest point
- Do not push — the slope provides momentum automatically
- Jump in at the start of the downward slope and ride through the lava passage
- Duck or don't — the cart clears all overhead obstacles automatically
Final Altar
Step out of the cart at the altar platform. Walk to Rauru's statue and interact for your Light of Blessing.
Chest Summary
| # | Contents | Location | |---|----------|----------| | 1 | Spiked Moblin Shield / Strong Zonaite weapon | Room 2 — side track branch at the Y-junction. Ride the diverging rail path to the elevated platform. |
Tips
- Cart placement finesse: The cart must contact both rails evenly. If it tilts or one side drops, reposition with Ultrahand — a tilted cart derails on contact with any slope.
- Derailed cart recovery: If the cart falls off the tracks (common in Room 1), use Ultrahand to retrieve it from below. The cart floats above lava long enough to grab via Ultrahand if you're quick.
- Ascend shortcut: In some cart shrine rooms, you can position the cart below a thin ceiling and use Ascend through the cart's floor into the room above — bypassing the track entirely. Check ceilings above the cart's resting positions before attempting the full track route.
- Ultrahand momentum: A firm "push" from Ultrahand (extend quickly, release) gives the cart enough velocity to cross flat tracks. Don't use full-speed push on slopes — it may overshoot.
- Eldin combo run: Magda Shrine is near Goma Asagh, Disisan, and Kihshe shrines. Equip Flamebreaker and clear all four Eldin shrines in one thermal-protection run to maximize efficiency.
Nearby Points of Interest
- Goron City — west via the main mountain road; armor shop (Flamebreaker set), cooking pot, hot spring baths for healing
- Death Mountain Summit — northeast; the highest point in Eldin with exceptional ore deposits (Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz)
- Eldin Canyon Road — south; the main thoroughfare connecting Death Mountain to Central Hyrule
- Yunobo's location — Yunobo of Goron City (Sage of Fire) is found near this area during his questline — his Charge ability is useful for destroying rock formations blocking alternate routes
