Orochium Shrine — Courage to Fall

Location: Hebra region, Hebra Peak area Coordinates: (-3486, 3012, 0362) Type: Puzzle / Traversal Shrine Difficulty: Medium

Overview

Orochium Shrine is a vertical traversal puzzle built around the Ascend ability and deliberate falling. The shrine's rooms are stacked vertically: progress requires ascending through ceilings, falling through gaps at specific positions, and chaining Ascend with paraglide to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. An electric shock mechanic adds consequence — wet floors combined with conductive surfaces damage Link if he lands in the wrong position. Orochium is one of Hebra's most distinctive shrines: it turns the fear of falling into a resource and teaches that Ascend + controlled descent is a legitimate traversal toolkit. Players who finish Orochium rethink vertical space in every subsequent dungeon.

Preparation

  • Ascend — the primary ability; required for every major room transition
  • Paraglider — for controlled descent between falls
  • Shock Resistance gear helps but is not mandatory — the electric floor sections are avoidable with precise landing
  • Snowquill Set for the Hebra exterior approach — Hebra Peak is extreme cold territory
  • No combat gear required inside — purely traversal

Walkthrough

Step 1: First Ascend

The entry room has a stone ceiling 4m above the floor. Use Ascend to phase through it — you emerge in the room above. The upper room has a ledge and a gap. The gap drops back down to the entry level — but there's a switch on the far side of the gap. Cross using the ledge edge; do not fall into the gap yet.

Step 2: Electric Floor

The second room's floor is wet stone with a conductive metal grate — stepping on it while wearing metal armor causes electric stagger. The path across uses raised stone blocks. Step across the blocks (5 in sequence) to the far wall. Use Ascend through the ceiling at the far end.

Step 3: Controlled Fall

The third room has no ceiling to Ascend through — it's open above but has a shaft going down. Fall into the shaft — there's a platform 10m below with a chest. Land on it (open the chest: Thunderclap Robes fragment). Paraglide off the platform's edge to a lower platform with the next switch. Hit the switch; a gate opens on the wall.

Step 4: Chain Ascend

The final section has three stacked rooms accessible only by chaining three Ascend uses: Ascend room 1, walk to correct position, Ascend room 2, walk to correct position, Ascend room 3. The top room contains the altar door. Position matters: Ascend emerges directly above — be over solid floor, not gaps, when activating.

Step 5: Altar

The altar is in the top room. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest near the altar contains Snowquill Trousers — cold-region armor useful for continued Hebra exploration.

Chest Summary

| # | Contents | Location | |---|----------|----------| | 1 | Thunderclap Robes (fragment) | Step 3 — on the platform at the bottom of the controlled-fall shaft. Land on it during the descent. | | 2 | Snowquill Trousers | Step 5 — near the altar in the top room. Cold-region armor for continued Hebra exploration. |

Tips

  • Falling is intentional in this shrine — don't fight it; control it with the Paraglider
  • The electric floor (Step 2) is avoidable entirely by jumping across the raised blocks without touching the grate
  • Ascend height limit: Link can Ascend through up to 10m of solid material — very thick ceilings will block it
  • Chain Ascend: after emerging from one Ascend, move immediately to the next position before re-entering the cooldown window
  • Wet floors + shock: remove metal armor pieces before crossing the conductive grate if Shock Resistance is unavailable
