Rakashog Shrine
Rakashog Shrine — Metal and Motion
Location: Gerudo Desert, south-central area Coordinates: (-3344, -3518, 0021) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Medium
Overview
Rakashog Shrine centers on metal object manipulation — using Ultrahand's interaction with magnetic and weighted metal objects to solve progressively complex spatial puzzles. The shrine's design evokes Breath of the Wild's Magnesis ability but through TotK's more flexible Ultrahand mechanics: metal blocks here can be stacked, bridged, and angled in ways that Magnesis never allowed. The desert setting is atmospherically fitting — metal in the Gerudo Desert carries heat symbolism, and the shrine's amber-lit chambers reinforce the environment. A well-paced medium-difficulty shrine with three clearly defined puzzle stages.
Preparation
- Strong Ultrahand fundamentals — metal blocks are heavier than wood and require deliberate movement
- Recall is valuable in this shrine for reversing metal block positions after overshoots
- No weapons or temperature gear needed inside the shrine
- Full hearts before entering — the desert exterior approach involves heat hazards
- Desert Voe Set for the exterior; once inside, no temperature management required
Walkthrough
Step 1: Metal Bridge Construction
The first room has a gap 4 meters wide and two metal beams on the floor. Neither beam alone spans the gap, but together they do. Use Ultrahand to attach the two beams end-to-end — metal-to-metal connections in TotK hold firmly once aligned. Place the joined beam across the gap, resting it on both platform edges. Cross the bridge. This room establishes the metal-joining mechanic central to the shrine.
Step 2: Staircase of Metal Blocks
The second room has a ledge 3 meters high — too high to climb directly. Four metal cubes are scattered on the floor. Stack them into a 3-cube-high platform against the ledge wall: first cube on the floor, second cube balanced on top of the first, third cube on the second. The combined height reaches the ledge. Metal cubes stack more stably than wood because of their flat faces — no shimming required. Climb the stack and jump to the ledge.
Step 3: Rotating Metal Gate
The third room has a gate sealed by a rotating metal disk — a circular pressure plate embedded in the floor that requires a specific metal object to be placed on it. The correct object is a curved metal hook hanging on the north wall. Use Ultrahand to detach the hook from its mount and lower it onto the rotating plate. The hook's curve matches the plate's groove — it locks in and the gate opens. Attempting to use other metal objects fails because they don't match the groove profile.
Step 4: Metal Pendulum Crossing
The final crossing uses a large metal pendulum — a bar suspended from the ceiling that swings across a wide gap. Stand on the near platform and use Ultrahand to arrest the pendulum's swing, holding it steady at center position. Quickly walk across the pendulum bar to the far side before releasing Ultrahand. The bar is wide enough to walk on if you move at a steady pace without stopping. Release Ultrahand only after your feet are on the far platform.
Step 5: Altar
The altar is accessible after the pendulum crossing. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest in the corner contains Iron Ore and Zonaite — materials useful for crafting and Zonai Charge production.
Tips
- Metal-to-metal attachments in TotK are more stable than wood-to-metal — all bridge constructions benefit from all-metal components
- The rotating gate in Step 3 only accepts the specific curved hook — don't waste time trying other metal objects
- Pendulum crossing in Step 4: move at walking speed, not sprinting. Sprinting causes balance issues on narrow bars
- Recall is useful in Step 1 if the joined beam overshoots the gap — reverse it back to the connection point and re-angle
- Optional chest on a high side alcove in Step 2 contains a Gerudo Spear — worth grabbing with an extended metal pole
