Sinakawak Shrine — Hot Air Balloon

Location: Central Hyrule, Hyrule Field north Ability Required: Ultrahand Difficulty: Easy — hot air balloon construction and lift puzzle

Overview

Sinakawak Shrine is the game's introduction to hot air balloon mechanics. You'll attach a fire source to the opening of a balloon envelope (bag) and ride it upward. A creative, memorable puzzle that opens up balloon travel across all of Hyrule.

Preparation

  • No combat
  • No special gear
  • Takes 4–5 minutes — one of the quickest shrines

Walkthrough

Room 1 — Build the Balloon

  1. A large fabric envelope (deflated balloon bag) hangs from the ceiling. A fire torch/brazier sits on the floor beneath it.
  2. Use Ultrahand to grab the torch and position it directly beneath the balloon envelope's opening at the bottom.
  3. The hot air from the torch fills the balloon — the balloon inflates and begins rising.
  4. Quickly board a platform that's attached to the balloon. As the balloon rises, the platform lifts you up.

Room 2 — Precision Lift

  1. The second balloon needs to be aimed at a specific landing ledge — it rises directly above where you position the torch.
  2. Position the torch precisely beneath the balloon so that when it rises, the carrying platform passes near the target landing ledge.
  3. Board the platform and jump to the landing ledge as you pass it.

Altar

Walk from the second balloon's landing ledge to the altar.

Collect your Light of Blessing.

Tips

  • Torch position = balloon destination: The balloon rises straight up from wherever the torch heats it. Position the torch to aim the balloon's path at your target landing.
  • Boarding window: After attaching the torch to the balloon, you have about 3 seconds before the balloon rises out of board range. Get on the platform immediately.
  • Bring your own flame: If you have a Fire Fruit in your inventory, attach it to a stick to create a makeshift torch — useful if the shrine's torch feels awkward.
  • Slow descent: Hot air balloons descend slowly when the fire source is removed. If you need to lower the platform, use Ultrahand to move the torch away from the balloon.
  • Outside use: After learning this mechanic, build your own balloon platforms anywhere in Hyrule — balloon envelopes are common on Sky Islands, and any fire source (campfire, Flame Emitter, Fire Fruit) inflates them.
  • Balloon + fan combo: Attach a Zonai Fan horizontally to a balloon platform for directional control — the balloon provides lift, the fan provides forward thrust. Sinakawak's lesson is the foundation for airship construction in the open world.

Location Details

The shrine is in northern Central Hyrule, north of Hyrule Field near the main road toward Akkala. From Woodland Stable, head south along the road; the shrine is on the left side of the road before the Eldin junction. No special approach gear needed; the area has light Bokoblin activity but no obstacles to the shrine entrance.
