Tukarok Shrine
Tukarok Shrine — Forward Force
Location: Necluda region, east Hyrule near Kakariko Village Coordinates: (2284, -1652, 0098) Type: Puzzle Shrine Difficulty: Easy
Overview
Tukarok Shrine is a momentum and throwing puzzle set in the scenic Necluda region, with the rolling hills and forests of east Hyrule as context. The shrine teaches and reinforces the concept of using thrown objects' momentum to activate distant switches and knock down barriers. Players must throw objects with Ultrahand at precise angles and velocities — not just placing them, but launching them with directional force. A refreshing departure from the build-and-ride shrine type, Tukarok focuses on aiming and release mechanics that feel almost like an in-world bowling or physics game.
Preparation
- No special armor or temperature gear required
- Ultrahand proficiency for throwing — hold and swing before releasing, not just placing
- No combat inside the shrine
- Standard exploration gear for the Necluda exterior — the region has Bokoblins and Lizalfos in camps
- A light meal beforehand is sufficient — no hazards inside
Walkthrough
Step 1: Throw to Switch
The first room has a large stone ball on a pedestal and a switch on the far wall 8 meters away. Pick up the ball with Ultrahand, then throw it at the switch — the key is the release direction and speed. Pull back with Ultrahand (hold L and flick the stick) to aim, then release. The ball rolls or flies toward the switch. Aim slightly above center for better range. Switch activates on contact, gate opens.
Step 2: Rolling Slope Launch
The second room has a downward ramp and a switch at the bottom behind a barrier. The ball must be launched down the ramp with enough force to clear the barrier and hit the switch behind it. Position the ball at the top of the ramp, angle it down the slope, then flick Ultrahand to give it forward momentum. The slope amplifies the force — the ball clears the barrier and hits the switch if released at the right ramp position.
Step 3: Curved Path Throw
The third room's switch is behind a curved wall — a direct throw won't reach it. Two stone balls are available. Throw ball one at the curved wall's corner — it ricochets off the corner and redirects toward the switch. This requires aiming at the corner precisely rather than the switch directly. Ball two is available as a retry. The ricochet angle is predictable: aim ball at the 45-degree corner, it reflects 90 degrees toward the switch.
Step 4: Final Moving Target
The last switch moves on a track — sliding left to right slowly. Throw the available ball to intercept the switch mid-path. Aim for where the switch will be when the ball arrives, not where it currently is. The ball's travel time is approximately 0.5 seconds from 6 meters away. At the switch's movement speed, target its current position's left edge for a center hit.
Step 5: Altar
The final gate opens when the moving switch is hit. The altar is ahead. Collect your Light of Blessing. The chest nearby contains a Knight's Claymore — a reliable two-handed weapon for Necluda's mid-game combat.
Tips
- Ultrahand throwing: hold L to grab, swing the stick in the throw direction, then release — the flick creates momentum
- Step 3 ricochet: the corner angle is always 45 degrees, always reflecting 90 degrees — consistent physics each attempt
- Moving targets (Step 4) require leading — throw where the target will be, not where it is
- The stone balls never break and can be repositioned between attempts — retrieve and retry without penalty
- Necluda region has multiple Sheikah-themed locations — Kakariko Village northwest is a full-service hub with cooking and merchants
Nearby Points of Interest
- Kakariko Village — northwest, full services including cooking, armor shops, and Paya's questline
- Lanayru Promenade — east, road toward Zora's Domain
- Necluda Sky — above the region, accessible via Lanayru Skyview Tower for sky island exploration
