Watusushi Shrine is a multi-level puzzle shrine in Akkala that rewards creative Ascend use — the intended solution involves timed switch-activated platforms, but the shrine's ceiling geometry enables a nearly-complete Ascend bypass that skips most of the puzzle. Experienced players who know about Ascend shortcuts can clear this shrine in under 90 seconds. First-time players discovering Ascend bypasses here unlock a technique applicable throughout Hyrule's shrine network.

Location Details

The shrine sits in the northeastern Akkala highlands on an elevated rocky bluff. From Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower, launch and glide east — the shrine is visible at coordinates 3512, 1922. The surrounding highland has moderate Bokoblin presence; the shrine entrance is accessible without combat if you approach directly from the cliff path.

Detailed Walkthrough

Intended Path — Switch Platforms

The shrine's designed solution:

1. Room 1: A timed platform rises and falls on a switch trigger. Step on the pressure plate on the left to raise the platform, then run quickly onto it before it descends. Ride it to the upper level.
2. Room 2: Two switches control separate platform sections. The timing requires stepping on Switch A, crossing the first raised platform to Switch B, then quickly stepping on B to raise the second platform before A's platform drops. Practice the sequence: A → cross quickly → B → cross.
3. Room 3 (Optional — Chest): A third switch opens a gated side alcove with the treasure chest. Activate the switch and enter before it closes. Treasure Chest contents: typically a Strong Construct Bow or Zonaite material bundle.
4. Final Room: A pressure plate opens the last gate to the altar.

Ascend Bypass — Fast Route

This bypass skips Rooms 1 and 2 entirely:

1. Enter the shrine. In the very first room, walk to the left wall (the wall directly left of the entrance corridor).
2. Look straight up at the ceiling — you should see the green Ascend indicator glowing on the stone above.
3. Activate Ascend — Link phases through the ceiling and emerges on the second floor, bypassing the timed platforms in Room 1 and Room 2.
4. Walk forward along the second-floor corridor — you're now in the final room, past all switch puzzles.
5. Find the final pressure plate on the right side of the room. Step on it to open the altar gate.
6. Proceed to Rauru's statue.

Note on the chest: The Ascend bypass skips the chest alcove. To collect the chest AND use the bypass: collect the chest first via the intended path (Room 2 side alcove), then use Ascend from the first room to reach the altar quickly.

Final Chamber

Walk through the gate opened by the pressure plate. Interact with Rauru's statue for your Light of Blessing.

Chest Location

The treasure chest is in a gated side alcove in Room 2 — activated by the third switch during the intended puzzle path. The alcove closes after a short timer, so activate the switch and enter immediately. Common contents: Strong Construct Bow, Zonaite piece, or arrows.

Tips

• Ceiling scanning habit: Watusushi Shrine teaches one of TotK's most valuable shrine-solving habits — always look up for Ascend indicators before attempting the intended puzzle. Many shrines have Ascend shortcuts that cut their completion time in half.
• Ascend range: Ascend has a limited vertical range (approximately 3 Link-heights). If you can't trigger Ascend from the floor, climb to a higher position and try again.
• Intended vs shortcut: Neither path is wrong — the game explicitly rewards both. Ascend shortcuts weren't patched out; they're intentional design giving players options.
• Platform timing (intended path): If doing the timed platforms, the key is pre-positioning — stand near the platform before activating the switch so you have maximum time to cross. Don't activate from a distance.
• Chest retrieval after bypass: If you used the bypass and want the chest, re-enter the shrine and play the intended path to Room 2's switch — you cannot re-use Ascend to reach the chest from the second floor's bypass exit point.
