Spring of Wisdom — Mount Lanayru's Sacred Summit

The Spring of Wisdom is the sacred spring atop Mount Lanayru — one of three sacred springs in Hyrule (alongside the Spring of Power in Akkala and the Spring of Courage in Faron). In Tears of the Kingdom, the spring is still present and connected to the dragon Naydra, the Ice Dragon who circles the Mount Lanayru summit. Visiting the spring is required for certain sidequests and is a significant landmark for lore completionists.

Location

Mount Lanayru Summit — East Lanayru

| How to Get There | Details | |-----------------|---------| | Skyview Tower approach | Launch from Lanayru Wetlands Skyview Tower, glide east | | Ground climb | Climb the mountain road from Zora's Domain east, requires Cold Resist Lv2+ | | Sky island jump | Several sky islands near the summit provide aerial approach routes |

Cold Resistance Required

Mount Lanayru is one of the coldest non-Hebra zones in TotK. The summit area requires:

| Area | Cold Resist Needed | |------|--------------------| | Mountain slopes | Cold Lv1 (1 Snowquill piece or Spicy Elixir) | | Upper approach | Cold Lv1 sustained | | Summit/spring zone | Cold Lv2 (full Snowquill set or 2 pieces + elixir) |

Without Cold Lv2 at the summit, Link loses hearts rapidly from the ambient freeze. Bring the full Snowquill set and a backup Spicy Elixir.

Naydra and the Spring

Naydra (the Ice Dragon) circles Mount Lanayru on its flight path. The Spring of Wisdom is one of the dragon's primary "touchpoints" — Naydra flies low over the spring area on its circuit. This makes the Spring of Wisdom one of the best intercept points for:

  • Collecting Naydra Scale (shoot body scales)
  • Collecting Naydra Claw (shoot claws)
  • Collecting Naydra Fang (shoot teeth)
  • Collecting Naydra Horn (shoot the horn)

Optimal farming: Position yourself on the rocky outcropping east of the spring. Naydra passes directly overhead, allowing you to fire arrows at any body part without having to land on the dragon.

The Shrine Connection

In previous Zelda games, the Spring of Wisdom contained the Lanayru Dragon shrine. In TotK, the spring area still has a shrine connection — the nearest shrine appears on the eastern slope below the summit and mirrors the spring's position on the surface map.

Sacred Spring Lore

All three sacred springs (Wisdom, Power, Courage) are linked to the Triforce:

  • Spring of Wisdom — Mount Lanayru — Connected to Zelda's Triforce of Wisdom
  • Spring of Power — Akkala — Connected to Ganondorf's Triforce of Power
  • Spring of Courage — Faron — Connected to Link's Triforce of Courage

Visiting all three springs while reading their ancient tablets completes a lore arc about the three goddesses (Din, Nayru, Farore) and their gifts to Hyrule. Side quest involving all three springs may require praying at each, which spawns a special chest.

Items and Rewards

| Reward | How | Location | |--------|-----|----------| | Naydra parts | Shoot any body zone while dragon passes | Summit area | | Ancient blade | Inside a hidden chest behind spring's ice formation | Use Bomb to clear ice | | Spring chest | May spawn after praying at spring (sidequest) | Spring basin | | Summit ore deposits | Break with weapons | Rocky summit outcroppings |

Tips

  • Bring 20+ arrows for Naydra farming — having to return to restock mid-dragon-intercept breaks the run
  • Time of day — Naydra is easiest to track at sunrise (lighter sky backdrop)
  • Land on Naydra — if you need a specific part, glide onto Naydra's back after intercepting its path. The ice dragon will not attack you while you're standing on it
  • Mount Lanayru caves — the mountain slopes have several small caves with ore deposits and Brightbloom Seeds; explore while waiting for Naydra's circuit to bring it back around
  • Summit Lightroot — the Lanayru Depths has a lightroot directly below Mount Lanayru summit; activating it fills in this section of the underground map simultaneously
