Stone Talus Variants Overview
Standard Stone Talus
The most common variant. Grey-brown rocky body with a dark ore node visible on its upper back or shoulder. Found throughout Hyrule's surface at low to mid elevations. Drops Flint, Amber, and occasionally Opal.
Luminous Stone Talus
Glowing blue-white variant found primarily in cave environments and near Lightroot-adjacent areas. Their ore node glows visibly making it easier to target. Drops Luminous Stone in large quantities — excellent farming target for Zora's Domain armor upgrades.
Igneo Talus
Fire-elemental variant found in the Eldin region near Death Mountain lava flows. The entire body is hot to the touch — melee attacks against the main body deal recoil fire damage to Link. Must be cooled with Ice Arrows before melee engagement. Drops Rubies.
Frost Talus
Ice-elemental variant found in Hebra and northern Akkala cold zones. Body radiates cold energy — unprotected melee triggers frostbite damage. Weakened by Fire Arrows or fire-fused weapons. Drops Sapphires.
Battle Talus
Unique variant with a Bokoblin camp mounted on its back. The Bokoblins throw projectiles while the Talus fights. Must defeat or displace the Bokoblins before safely engaging the ore node. Found in specific overworld locations. Drops mixed ore plus Bokoblin Horn/Fang items.
All Stone Talus Locations
Central Hyrule
Hyrule Ridge Stone Talus Located on the rocky hillside northwest of Hyrule Castle, above the Nero Hill area. Standard Stone Talus, medium difficulty. Ore node on left shoulder. Drops Flint and Amber.
Dalite Forest Stone Talus Hidden in the wooded valley southwest of Lookout Landing. Disguised as a boulder among the trees — activates when Link approaches within 15 meters. Standard variant. Good early-game farming target.
Crenel Hills Stone Talus On the rocky ridge east of Hyrule Ridge. Partially underground, emerges when triggered. Standard variant. Drops Opal at higher rate than most Standard Talus.
Akkala Region
Akkala Highlands Stone Talus (x2) Two Standard Stone Talus patrol the rocky plateau of the Akkala Highlands. The eastern one is near East Akkala Stable, the western one is on the main ridge path. Both drop Amber and Flint.
Ordorac Quarry Stone Talus Inside the Ordorac Quarry cave system in Akkala. Luminous Stone variant. Cave environment means it glows brightly — easy to target the ore node. Drops Luminous Stone (4-6 per defeat).
South Akkala Beach Stone Talus On the coastal cliffs south of Akkala Citadel. Standard variant partially embedded in the cliff face. Drops Opal reliably.
Eldin Region
Death Mountain Foothills Igneo Talus On the lower slopes of Death Mountain southeast of Goron City. Igneo variant. Requires Ice Arrows or a frozen weapon to cool before melee. Drops Rubies (2-3) and Flint. Mandatory Flamebreaker armor.
Eldin Canyon Igneo Talus Deeper in Eldin Canyon at a higher elevation. Stronger Igneo variant, more aggressive patrol radius. Drops 3-4 Rubies plus Amber.
Goron Hot Springs Area Igneo Talus Titan Rare Igneo Talus Titan (oversized variant) near the Goron Hot Springs. Requires sustained ice-based attacks across multiple vulnerable phases. Drops 5-6 Rubies plus a Diamond.
Lanayru Region
Upland Zorana Luminous Stone Talus In the rocky upper plateau of Upland Zorana east of Zora's Domain. Luminous Stone variant. Easy to reach via Zora's Domain Skyview Tower. Drops 4-5 Luminous Stone per defeat.
Lanayru Great Spring Shore Talus Standard Stone Talus at the western shore of Lanayru Great Spring. Partially submerged in shallow water. Drops Opal and Amber.
Ruto Mountain Stone Talus On the slopes of Ruto Mountain in central Lanayru. Standard variant at mid-elevation. Drops Flint and Amber.
Faron Region
Faron Grasslands Stone Talus (x2) Two Standard Stone Talus are embedded in the grassy plateau north of Lake Floria. Both activate when Link enters their patrol zone. They are within 200 meters of each other — do not trigger both simultaneously.
Dracozu River Valley Stone Talus In the river valley near the Dracozu Lake. Standard variant partially disguised as a river boulder. Drops Opal consistently.
Lake Hylia East Shore Talus On the eastern shore of Lake Hylia. Standard variant. Accessible early in the game and a reliable ore source before better farming routes open.
Hebra Region
Tabantha Tundra Frost Talus In the Tabantha Tundra north of Rito Village. Frost variant. Requires Fire Arrows or fire-fused weapons to damage efficiently. Drops Sapphires (2-3) and Amber. Requires Level 2 cold resistance to operate comfortably in the area.
Hebra Mountains North Frost Talus Higher in the Hebra Mountains, accessible via sky glide from the Hebra Tower. Stronger Frost variant with higher health. Drops 3-4 Sapphires plus Flint.
Pikida Stonegrove Frost Talus In the Pikida Stonegrove area of northern Hebra. Frost Talus Titan (oversized). Requires sustained fire damage. Drops 5 Sapphires and a Diamond.
Gerudo Region
Gerudo Highlands Stone Talus On the rocky plateau of the Gerudo Highlands. Standard variant. Accessible from the Gerudo Canyon Skyview Tower. Drops Amber and Flint.
Palu Wasteland Stone Talus In the Palu Wasteland area of the Gerudo Desert. Partially buried in sand — activates when approaching. Standard variant. Drops Flint and rare Opal.
Battle Talus Locations
Hyrule Field Battle Talus In the central Hyrule Field area, carries a Bokoblin camp of 3-4 Bokoblins on its back. Use arrows to knock the Bokoblins off before climbing to the ore node. Mixed ore drops plus Bokoblin parts.
Akkala Battle Talus In the Akkala wilderness. Carries a Black Bokoblin camp. Higher difficulty than the Hyrule Field variant. Drops include Amber and Black Bokoblin Horns.
Combat Guide
Universal Strategy
- Identify the ore node — a dark rocky protrusion on the Talus's body, usually the back, shoulder, or top
- Stagger the Talus — hit it hard with bomb arrows or heavy weapons until it kneels
- Climb the body — while it's staggered, run up its rocky surface
- Attack the node directly — use your strongest weapon with Fuse material on the node for maximum damage
- Repeat until defeated
Bomb Arrow Opening
Two bomb arrows to the body stagger any standard Talus. The stagger window lasts approximately 8 seconds — plenty of time to climb to the node and land 3-4 heavy hits. After it rises, retreat and repeat.
Elemental Variants
- Igneo: Hit body with Ice Arrows first (2-3 arrows) to cool it, then bomb arrow to stagger, then melee on the node
- Frost: Hit body with Fire Arrows (2-3 arrows) to thaw it, then bomb arrow stagger, then melee
- Standard/Luminous/Battle: Standard bomb arrow approach works without elemental prep
Climbing the Body
Use the crevices and ledge geometry on the Talus body as climbing holds. Sprint up the flattest face. Once on top, the ore node on a Stone Talus is usually on the upper back — walk to it and use a heavy two-handed charged attack (hold Y, release) for maximum node damage per hit.
Ore Drop Farming
Best Farming Targets by Ore Type
- Luminous Stone: Ordorac Quarry Talus + Upland Zorana Talus (2 per Blood Moon reset = 8-10 Luminous Stone)
- Rubies: Eldin Canyon Igneo Talus (3-4 per defeat)
- Sapphires: Hebra Mountains Frost Talus (3-4 per defeat)
- Diamonds: Igneo/Frost Talus Titans — rare but guaranteed 1 Diamond per defeat
- Opal: Crenel Hills + Dracozu River Talus (combined 4-6 Opal per reset)
Blood Moon Reset Strategy
All Stone Talus respawn at every Blood Moon. Set up a Blood Moon campfire (cook at midnight when Blood Moon is due), defeat the two highest-value Talus in a region, trigger Blood Moon, and repeat for efficient ore farming.
