About Sonia

Sonia is the first queen of Hyrule, wife to Rauru, and the most powerful time-manipulator in Hyrulean history. Born with the innate ability to perceive and influence the flow of time, she is Rauru's equal in every sense — regal, composed, and deeply perceptive. When Zelda arrives from the future with an impossible story and the Purah Pad, Sonia is the first to truly believe her, recognizing in Zelda's Recall ability a kindred temporal power. She becomes Zelda's teacher, mentor, and something close to a mother figure, helping her refine her powers in the ancient past. Sonia's murder by Ganondorf — who deceives her using Phantom Zelda before striking — is among TotK's most devastating narrative moments. Ganondorf steals her Secret Stone to transform it into a Demon Dragon scale and crown himself Demon King. Her death is the point of no return in the ancient storyline and the moment Rauru's final sacrifice becomes inevitable. Sonia is the ancestral foremother of the Sheikah bloodline — Impa, Paya, and by extension Zelda herself are all her descendants.
