Learn About the Mayoral Race in Hateno Village

Arrive in Hateno Village and notice campaign signs for two candidates: Cece, a fashionable newcomer with a distinctive mushroom-shaped hat, and Reede, the pragmatic incumbent mayor. Villagers are divided. Cece's supporters love her fresh ideas and style; Reede's supporters prefer stability. Speak with the village gossip near the inn to learn that Cece has been seen sneaking out after midnight.

Stake Out Cece's Nightly Activities

Rest at the inn until midnight, then follow Cece as she slips out of her house carrying a large sack. Trail her from a safe distance without running or using a torch — she will abort her errand if she spots Link. She walks to the mushroom grove east of the village and begins tending to a large circle of mushrooms, watering them carefully and speaking to them in a whisper.

Confront Cece and Learn Her Secret

Approach Cece while she is tending the mushrooms. She startles and confesses: her famous hat is actually made from a rare mushroom she cultivates in this grove, and she has been sneaking out every night to care for them. The mushroom hat is the source of her entire political persona and she fears if people knew it was "just a mushroom," they would stop supporting her unconventional style.

Decide Whether to Tell and Claim Your Reward

You can choose to keep Cece's secret or hint about it to the villagers. Either way, the election proceeds and Cece wins — her mushroom-growing hobby becomes public and the villagers find it endearing rather than scandalous. Cece gives Link the Mushroom Hat as thanks: it boosts Stealth and offers minor defense. Hateno Village receives a new dye shop as Cece's first mayoral decree.
