Step-by-Step Walkthrough
1
Meet Engineer Gonguron at the Cracked Hot Spring
Find Gonguron at the famous Goron hot springs east of Goron City. The spring floor has a network of hairline cracks from Upheaval tremors, and water is seeping downward into the rock rather than pooling in the basin. Gonguron needs two materials to seal the cracks: Obsidian, which is abundant on Death Mountain's outer slopes, and Zonai Sealing Compound, which must be extracted from a specific Zonai device cache nearby.
2
Mine Obsidian on Death Mountain's Outer Slopes
Equip Fireproof armor before ascending — the outer slopes are rated medium heat intensity. Obsidian nodes appear as jet-black shiny outcroppings in contrast to the orange volcanic rock. Mine them with a hammer-type weapon or Goron-strength strikes. Gonguron needs six Obsidian chunks — two or three mining nodes yield this amount. Carry them back carefully; Obsidian is heavy but not fragile.
3
Extract Zonai Sealing Compound from the Device Cache
The Zonai cache Gonguron marked is in a lava-adjacent grotto northeast of the hot springs, accessible only when wearing full Fireproof gear. Inside, a dormant Zonai Dispenser holds the Sealing Compound in crystallized capsule form. Activate the Dispenser with a Zonai Charge to release two compound capsules. Take both — Gonguron will need the full quantity for a proper seal.
4
Help Gonguron Apply the Repair and Test the Spring
Bring all materials to Gonguron. He mixes the compound with the Obsidian fragments and applies the paste into the cracks using a specialized Goron masonry tool. The compound sets within minutes thanks to the spring's residual heat. Once set, the spring refills and the basin steams beautifully. Gonguron registers the hot spring as an active fast-travel point and sends Link off with five Fireproof Elixirs as compensation.
