Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

The most unique Zelda. Side-scrolling action-RPG with XP, towns, spells, and a death screen that haunted a generation. Link must awaken Princess Zelda by placing crystals in 7 palaces and recovering the Triforce of Courage.

All 7 Palaces

Palace 1

Parapa Palace

Candle

📍 Parapa Desert — first area you enter after Death Mountain path

Boss — Horsehead: Horsehead is tall — only sword thrusts at head height connect. Approach from below, press B while Link is mid-height on stairs for head shots. Duck under slow mace swings.

Palace 2

Midoro Palace

Handy Glove

📍 Midoro Swamp — cross the swamp east of North Castle

Boss — Helmethead: Helmethead throws his helmets as projectiles. Hit the head, which grows larger after each hit. Use Downthrust between projectile patterns. Shield spell recommended.

Palace 3

Island Palace

Raft

📍 Island east of Moruge Swamp — requires Raft from Dungeon 2

Boss — Rebonack: Rebonack fights on horseback — Jump over his lance thrusts and slash from above. He dismounts at half health and becomes much faster. Stay mobile, bait attacks.

Palace 4

Maze Island Palace

Boots

📍 Maze Island northeast — Boots needed to cross water

Boss — Carock: Carock is a wizard who teleports. Reflect spell bounces his magic back at him — the ONLY way to damage him. Cast Reflect before engaging, then shield-block while waiting for him to teleport in range.

Palace 5

Ocean Palace

Flute

📍 Far south ocean island — requires both Raft and Boots

Boss — Gooma: Gooma swings a ball and chain in a wide arc. Duck under the chain, rush in close, and slash repeatedly. The ball cannot hit you when you're directly underneath Gooma. Fairy spell recommended to restore magic.

Palace 6

Three-Eye Rock Palace

Cross

📍 Three-Eye Rock — revealed by playing Flute at the rock formation

Boss — Barba: Barba is a fire-breathing dragon emerging from lava. Jump over the lava blasts and strike his head when it's at platform level. Use Jump spell for extra height. Barba rises and falls — timing is everything.

Palace 7

Great Palace

Triforce of Courage

📍 Valley of Death — only accessible with all 6 crystals placed

Boss — Dark Link + Thunderbird: Thunderbird: Cast Thunder spell to reveal his weak point (no weak point visible otherwise). Hit his head while dodging fireball spreads. Dark Link: He mirrors your attacks. Crouch in the corner and thrust — he cannot copy this. 3 hits to defeat.

All 8 Magic Spells

Spells are learned from sages in hidden towns across Hyrule. Each costs magic points to cast. Finding all 8 is required to defeat Thunderbird and complete the game.

Shield

1 MP

📍 Rauru Town

Halves all damage taken for the duration

Grab this first. The difficulty spike in Dungeon 4+ is brutal without it.

Jump

4 MP

📍 Ruto Town

Dramatically increases jump height

Required to reach high platforms and hidden caves throughout the overworld.

Life

9 MP

📍 Saria Town

Restores all magic points when cast

Cast this when out of magic to restore your supply for other spells.

Fairy

2 MP

📍 Mido Town

Transforms Link into a fairy for navigation

Required to enter small keyholes and reach restricted areas.

Fire

5 MP

📍 Nabooru Town

Shoots a fireball from the sword tip

Useful for soft soil and candles — replaces the need for the candle in some areas.

Reflect

3 MP

📍 Old Kasuto Town

Makes your shield reflect magic projectiles

REQUIRED to defeat Carock in Dungeon 4. No other strategy works.

Spell

8 MP

📍 Hidden Kasuto

Upgrades certain enemies and reveals secrets

Required to enter Dungeon 7. Open the secret town of New Kasuto first.

Thunder

10 MP

📍 Great Palace

Destroys all enemies on screen and weakens Thunderbird

Without this spell, Thunderbird has no visible weak point and cannot be damaged.
