Amiibo Guide — All Rewards & How to Use Them

Amiibo are NFC figures that unlock bonus rewards in Tears of the Kingdom. Scanning them spawns a chest or drops items from the sky. Some amiibo are the only source of exclusive cosmetic armor — the Wild Set from BotW, the Fierce Deity Set, and unique horse gear. This guide covers everything.

How to Use Amiibo in TotK

  1. Enable amiibo: Go to System Settings → Controllers and Sensors → Enable NFC
  2. In-game toggle: Pause → Options → turn on "Use amiibo" if prompted
  3. Scan: In-game, open the inventory, go to the amiibo shortcut — or use the d-pad menu. Hold the amiibo figure to the right Joy-Con's NFC reader (right thumbstick area) or the middle of the Pro Controller.
  4. Wait for drop: A chest descends from the sky (exclusive rewards) or items fall in a circle around you.

Cooldown: Each amiibo can be scanned once per 24 real-world hours. The clock resets at midnight.

Best scanning location: High elevation (mountain, sky island) gives the chest more time to descend cleanly. On flat ground it works fine too.

Amiibo Reward Types

| Type | What It Means | |------|--------------| | Exclusive Reward | A guaranteed item only obtainable from this specific amiibo | | Common Rewards | Random items from a pool — you won't get all of them each scan | | Chance Items | Rare items in the common pool that don't drop every time |

Key rule: Exclusive rewards may not drop every scan. If you're targeting a specific armor piece, scan the amiibo daily until it appears. Most players get exclusive items within 3–7 scans.

Best Amiibo for TotK

Tier 1 — Essential (Exclusive Armor)

Link (Archer) — BotW series

  • Exclusive: Tunic of the Wild (chest piece)
  • Common: Bow of Light replica, arrows, food
  • One of three BotW Link amiibo that together give the full Wild Set (Tunic, Trousers, Cap)

Link (Rider) — BotW series

  • Exclusive: Trousers of the Wild
  • Common: Broadsword, shield, saddle, food
  • Also provides a Royal Saddle variant from the common pool — excellent horse cosmetic

Zelda — BotW series

  • Exclusive: Cap of the Wild
  • Common: Star Fragments, Luminous Stones, Diamonds, Silent Princess
  • Completing all three BotW Link + Zelda amiibo gives you the full Wild Set — one of the best-looking armor sets

Link (Ocarina of Time)

  • Exclusive: Fierce Deity Sword replica + Fierce Deity Armor (chest)
  • Best amiibo for the Fierce Deity Set — the most powerful-looking endgame armor

Zelda (Ocarina of Time / Wind Waker)

  • Exclusive: Various Fierce Deity set pieces (variant drops)
  • Check which specific OoT/WW Zelda amiibo you have — each may give a different piece

Wolf Link

  • Exclusive: Wolf Link companion summon (temporary combat companion)
  • The wolf assists in combat and has HP based on your BotW save's Heart Containers if data is present

Tier 2 — Strong (Materials + Weapons)

Link (Twilight Princess)

  • Exclusive: Twilight Bow (fires Light Arrows)
  • Common: Ancient materials, gems
  • The Twilight Bow is a powerful unique weapon

Ganondorf (Hyrule Warriors)

  • Exclusive: Thunder Helm replica (cosmetic, not functional like Riju's)
  • Common: Dark materials, monster parts

Link (Super Smash Bros.)

  • Exclusive: Hero's Shield
  • Common: Shields, swords, food

Guardian (BotW)

  • Exclusive: Ancient Shield / Ancient materials
  • The Guardian amiibo is one of the best for Ancient parts used in high-end Fuse combos

Tier 3 — Useful (Resources)

| Amiibo | Best Common Drop | |--------|----------------| | Bokoblin (BotW) | Monster parts, weapons | | Lizalfos (BotW) | Lizalfos parts, bows | | Moblin (BotW) | Moblin parts, clubs | | Any non-Zelda Smash Bros Link | Random weapons/food | | Animal Crossing series | Food ingredients |

The Wild Set (Full Set Bonus)

The Wild Set — Cap, Tunic, and Trousers of the Wild — is the exclusive BotW callback armor. Together they provide:

  • Set bonus: Master Sword Beam Up (fires stronger beams when HP is full)
  • Aesthetic: Link's BotW outfit, immediately recognizable

Requires three separate BotW-series amiibo: Archer Link, Rider Link, and BotW Zelda.

The Fierce Deity Set (Full Set Bonus)

The Fierce Deity Set — Mask, Armor, and Boots — is one of the most powerful-looking armor sets. Together:

  • Set bonus: Strong Attach (increases charged attack power significantly)
  • Aesthetic: Fierce Deity Link from Majora's Mask, white armor with warpaint

The Fierce Deity Mask is sold in a Bargainer Statue (Depths) or may drop from specific amiibo — check your figures. The armor pieces come from OoT-era Link amiibo.

Horse Gear from Amiibo

Several amiibo drop exclusive saddle and bridle cosmetics: | Amiibo | Horse Gear | |--------|-----------| | Link (Rider) BotW | Royal Saddle + Royal Bridle | | Link (Archer) BotW | Wild Saddle + Wild Bridle | | Link (Twilight Princess) | Twilight Saddle + Twilight Bridle | | Link (Skyward Sword) | Sword Saddle + Sword Bridle |

Equip these at any stable's customization option. All cosmetic only — no stat changes.

Maximizing Amiibo Farming

Daily routine: Scan every amiibo you own daily. Common drop pools include Star Fragments, Diamonds, and Luminous Stones — valuable materials that normally require significant farming. Over a month, daily amiibo scanning provides more Star Fragments than almost any other source.

Star Fragment farming tip: The BotW Zelda amiibo has the highest Star Fragment drop rate in its common pool. Scan it first every day.

Multiple of the same amiibo: The game recognizes each individual figure separately by its NFC signature. If you have two identical Link (Archer) figures, you can scan both for double chances at the exclusive drop.

Phone + NFC app: Unofficial NFC apps (on Android with NFC chips) can emulate amiibo. Not officially supported by Nintendo, but widely used in the community. Scan at your own risk — some users report no issues, others note edge cases.

Tips

  • Altitude matters for chests: Scan on a hill or sky island so the exclusive chest drops clearly visible
  • Don't scan during combat — the chest spawns overhead and enemies will distract you
  • Check rarity before selling — exclusive armor pieces have no other source; never sell them
  • Scan immediately on game start — the 24-hour cooldown means daily first-thing scanning maximizes rewards
  • Wild Set looks best with the "Old" dye color from Kochi Dye Shop — authentic BotW aesthetic
