Chuchu Guide — Elemental Jelly Farming

Chuchus are blob-like enemies that drop Chuchu Jelly on death. The plain White Chuchu Jelly can be converted to elemental variants (fire, ice, electric) by exposing it to the matching element — turning a common drop into the most accessible elemental arrow fuse material in TotK. This guide covers every type and how to farm efficiently.

Chuchu Types

White Chuchu (Base)

Location: Everywhere — the most common Chuchu. Caves, open fields, forests.

Drop: White Chuchu Jelly (plain)

Combat:

  • Hops toward Link slowly
  • Inflates before attacking → brief dodge window
  • Small AoE slam on contact

Conversion: White Chuchu Jelly can be converted to any elemental variant:

  • Near fire source (campfire, torch, fire enemy attack) → Red Chuchu Jelly
  • Near ice source (cold area, Ice Keese attack) → Ice Chuchu Jelly
  • Near electric source (lightning strike, Thunder Wizzrobe) → Yellow Chuchu Jelly

Red Chuchu (Fire)

Location: Eldin Canyon, Death Mountain, volcanic areas

Drop: Red Chuchu Jelly (fire)

Combat:

  • Deals fire damage on contact
  • Explodes in a fire burst when killed → step back before killing
  • Can ignite surrounding grass/wood

Ice Chuchu

Location: Hebra mountains, Lanayru ice caves, cold northern areas

Drop: Ice Chuchu Jelly

Combat:

  • Deals freeze damage on contact
  • Explodes in ice burst on death → causes brief area freeze

Yellow Chuchu (Electric)

Location: Lanayru Wetlands (storm areas), Thunderhead Isles, electric caves

Drop: Yellow Chuchu Jelly

Combat:

  • Deals shock damage on contact
  • Chain-shocks nearby enemies when killed near a group
  • Most dangerous Chuchu — avoid fighting near metal-equipped Link

Large Chuchu Variants

Each type also has a Large variant (2–3× normal size):

  • More HP, higher jelly drop (2–3 jellies per kill)
  • Same locations as normal variants but rarer
  • Same elemental combat properties but wider impact radius

Jelly Conversion — Creating Elemental Variants

White → Red Chuchu Jelly:

  1. Drop White Chuchu Jelly near a campfire or torch
  2. The jelly ignites → becomes Red Chuchu Jelly
  3. Or: a Red Chuchu dies nearby → the fire burst converts nearby jellies

White → Ice Chuchu Jelly:

  1. Drop White Chuchu Jelly in an ice/cold area
  2. Or: Use a Zonai device that produces cold
  3. Ice Chuchu death burst also converts nearby jellies

White → Yellow Chuchu Jelly:

  1. Drop White Chuchu Jelly near a lightning strike or electric source
  2. Or: Yellow Chuchu death chain-shock converts nearby white jellies
  3. Metal items and lightning sources both trigger conversion

The campfire method:

  • Easiest conversion: place White Chuchu Jelly next to a campfire → Red Chuchu Jelly instantly
  • Great for batch conversion of white jelly stockpiles

Fuse Uses

Chuchu Jelly → Arrow Fuse

How to use:

  • Open inventory → select Chuchu Jelly → fuse to an arrow
  • OR: hold arrow in your hand → face any Chuchu → press fuse button on approach

Effect per jelly type:

| Jelly | Effect on Arrow | |-------|----------------| | White Chuchu Jelly | Small explosion on impact (general AoE) | | Red Chuchu Jelly | Fire explosion (ignites) | | Ice Chuchu Jelly | Ice explosion (freezes) | | Yellow Chuchu Jelly | Electric explosion (shocks, chain-damages group) |

AoE radius: All Chuchu Jelly arrows have a small explosion radius — more effective against groups than single targets.

Best elemental uses:

  • Red (fire): Ice enemies, wooden structures, cooking without a fire (fire arrow starts campfire)
  • Ice: Fire enemies, freezing powerful targets for extra melee damage (frozen = 3× vulnerability on first hit)
  • Yellow (electric): Wet enemies, groups of enemies close together (chain shock hits multiple)
  • White: General AoE for grouped enemies without needing specific element

Farming Locations

White Chuchu (Common Farm)

Best locations:

  • Akkala fields at night (caves and cliffs spawn White Chuchus densely)
  • Necluda: Kakariko cave systems
  • Faron: rainforest caves

Farming efficiency: Each cave sweep yields 5–15 White Chuchus. Caves reset on Blood Moon.

Red Chuchu — Eldin Canyon

Locations: Eldin canyon caves and lava-adjacent areas

Note: Flamebreaker Armor recommended. Red Chuchus explode on death → stand back.

Ice Chuchu — Hebra Caves

Locations: Hebra snowfield cave systems, Lanayru ice caves

Note: Snowquill Armor recommended. Ice explosion on death → stand back.

Yellow Chuchu — Thunderhead Isles

Best location: Thunderhead Isles sky cluster (storm environment → dense Yellow Chuchu presence)

Note: Rubber Armor recommended to prevent shock chain damage.

Quick Tips

  • Convert White to Red at any campfire — never run out of Red Chuchu Jelly if you have White. Drop White Jelly next to any campfire → instant fire jelly. This makes farming White Chuchus (everywhere) equivalent to farming Red Chuchus (Eldin only).
  • Ice arrow freeze = 3× melee damage — freezing a powerful enemy with an Ice Chuchu Jelly arrow then hitting it with a charged melee attack deals 3× bonus damage on the first hit. Use this on Silver Lynels, Gleeoks, and Bosses.
  • Yellow Chuchu arrows for wet enemies — enemies that are wet (hit by water, fighting near waterfalls) take massively increased electric damage. Yellow Chuchu Jelly arrow on a wet Bokoblin deals enormous damage and chains to nearby wet enemies.
  • Large Chuchus drop 2–3 jelly — prioritize killing large Chuchus first in any area. They drop significantly more jelly per kill.
  • Campfire batch conversion — if you have 30 White Chuchu Jellies and need Red, place them all near a campfire at once. All convert simultaneously. Takes 10 seconds.
