Hyrule Castle Treasure Guide — All Chests & Rare Item Locations
Hyrule Castle Treasure Guide — Every Chest Worth Finding
Hyrule Castle is the richest single loot location in Tears of the Kingdom. It contains the full Royal Guard Armor set, Ancient Blades for instant-kill weapon fusions, massive stacks of Royal Weapons with the highest base attack of any craftable weapon, and rare materials not found in other locations. This guide covers everything worth finding before you fight Ganondorf.
Castle Entry Points
Main Gate (Front): Large front gate is breachable using Ultrahand on the gate mechanism or simply climbing the side walls. Straightforward access.
Depths Approach (Fastest for loot): Drop into the Depths from any Hyrule Field chasm → navigate to directly under the castle → Ascend upward into lower castle floors. This bypasses the heavily guarded front entirely.
Sky Approach: Launch from Hyrule Ridge Skyview Tower → paraglide over the castle walls → land inside. Clean entry with no combat until you're inside.
Moat Climb: Swim across the Gloom-tainted moat (bring Sundelion meals) and climb the outer walls. Not recommended — Gloom water rapidly afflicts hearts.
Preparation
Bring:
- 6–8 Sunny meals (Sundelion-based) — Gloom floors throughout
- 10+ Brightbloom Seeds for lower castle areas
- 20+ Shock Arrows for enemy clearing
- Strong weapon for the Royal Guard Scout enemies
- Fireproof food or Flamebreaker Armor for the lower sanctum area
Enemy types inside:
- Gloom-corrupted Bokoblin (Silver tier)
- Gloom Hands (appear in specific rooms — very dangerous)
- Royal Guard Constructs (lower floors)
- Black Horriblin (upper areas)

Ancient Blade Strategy
Ancient Blades fused to any arrow or weapon deal instant kill to most non-boss enemies. They're extremely rare — find them only in Hyrule Castle and a few Depths locations.
Best use: Save Ancient Blades for:
- Silver Lynel opening strike (one-shot kills a Silver Lynel if applied correctly)
- Depths boss encounters
- Any high-health enemy you want eliminated instantly
Don't waste on: Regular Bokoblin, Lizalfos, anything you can kill easily with normal weapons.
Gloom Management Inside
The castle has Gloom flooding specific areas:
- Lower floors near the Depths access: heavy floor Gloom
- The moat and outer wall bases: Gloom water
- Upper Sanctum approach: Gloom energy radiating from Ganondorf's chamber
Protocol:
- Eat a Sunny meal before entering each Gloom-heavy zone
- Keep 2 Sunny meals in reserve for emergencies
- Don't fight Gloom Hands — they appear in specific rooms; avoid the rooms or warp out when they spawn
- Ascend shortcuts bypass the worst Gloom-floor areas entirely
After Looting — Before Ganondorf
Once you've collected all the castle's treasure:
- Warp out to a stable or inn
- Cook all ingredients into optimal meals (Hearty + Mighty + Sunny)
- Repair or replace any broken weapons
- Enter back through your fastest route to the Sanctum
The castle loot + full meal prep significantly increases your odds against Ganondorf. Don't fight him immediately after clearing the castle — take time to consolidate resources.
