Moblin Guide — All 4 Types, Combat Patterns & Best Drops
Moblin Guide — Every Type, Drop & Combat Strategy
Moblins are TotK's large bipedal enemies — slower than Bokoblins but hitting much harder, with longer weapon reach and higher HP. They frequently appear mixed with Bokoblin groups or as solo patrols. This guide covers all 4 variants, their combat patterns, and how to efficiently farm their valuable drops.
Moblin Types
Red Moblin
HP: Moderate Locations: Early-mid areas — Hyrule Field, Necluda, Akkala lower areas Weapon: Spear or bone club (depending on location)
Combat:
- Slow wind-up on spear thrusts and club swings
- Wide swing arc on club attacks
- Charges toward Link if at distance
- Most predictable timing for perfect dodges
Drops: Moblin Horn, Moblin Fang, Moblin Guts (rare)
Blue Moblin
HP: High Locations: Mid-game — Eldin, Lanayru, Akkala highlands Weapon: Heavier clubs, iron spears
Combat:
- Faster than Red Moblin (still slower than Bokoblins)
- Club overhead is its most dangerous attack — wide AoE
- Occasionally throws objects if available in camp
Drops: Same categories as Red, improved Guts drop rate
Black Moblin
HP: Very High Locations: Late-game regions, Depths camps Weapon: Large bone clubs, spiked weapons
Combat:
- Significant HP pool — tanky
- Grab attack: if close, Moblin grabs Link → throws (fall damage)
- Shield behavior: some Black Moblins raise a wooden shield before striking
Drops: Moblin Horn, Fang, Guts — high rate on all
Silver Moblin
HP: Maximum (highest HP Moblin) Locations: Post-scaling camps, deep Depths Weapon: Always carries the strongest available weapon in its region
Combat:
- Fast attack speed for a Moblin (Silver enhancement)
- Wide detection radius
- Often leads mixed Moblin + Bokoblin groups
Drops: All Moblin parts at maximum rates; Topaz sometimes embedded in their clubs
Combat Patterns
Spear Thrust
The most common Moblin attack in spear-using variants:
- Cue: Spear pulled back parallel to body
- Window: Sidehop at the moment of thrust extension
- Follow-up: Flurry Rush (3–5 hits) during stagger
Perfect dodge timing on spear thrust is more generous than most enemy attacks — the thrust is predictable and linear.
Club Swing (Horizontal)
- Cue: Club raised to shoulder height, body rotates
- Window: Backflip as body completes rotation
- Note: The horizontal swing has a wide arc — backflip is safer than sidehop
Club Overhead
- Cue: Club raised with both hands above head
- Window: Large — dodge left or right when hands begin descent
- Note: Most dangerous attack but most obvious telegraph
Grab Attack (Black and Silver only)
- Cue: Arms extend outward, Moblin leans forward
- Window: Backflip immediately
- If grabbed: Takes fall damage — quickly interrupt with a hit if you survive
Charge
If Link is 15+ meters away:
- Moblin runs at full speed
- Counter: Sprint sideways at 90 degrees — Moblin overshoots
- Or: bow headshot mid-charge → stagger interrupt
Drops and Uses
| Drop | Use | |------|-----| | Moblin Horn | Fuse weapon tip (+8 attack); Elixir ingredient | | Moblin Fang | Arrow fuse (jagged, good cutting tip); Elixir ingredient | | Moblin Guts | Elixir duration extender — similar to Bokoblin Guts |
Moblin Horn vs Bokoblin Horn fuse: Moblin Horn gives slightly higher attack bonus (+8 vs +5 for Bokoblin Horn). Small difference but worth preferring Moblin Horns when you have them.
Guts demand: Moblin Guts are second only to Bokoblin Guts in availability. Both work for elixir duration. Farm whichever you encounter more of.
Farming Locations
Hyrule Field Moblins
Multiple Red Moblins patrol Hyrule Field and the roads north of Lookout Landing:
- Good for early Moblin Horn supply
- Easy access from Lookout Landing fast travel
- Blood Moon resets quickly due to proximity to the main hub
Eldin Canyon Patrols
Blue/Black Moblins on the canyon approach:
- Often mixed with Lizalfos
- Drop higher-tier Guts
- Fire-resist food recommended (hot zone adjacent)
Akkala Mixed Camps
Black Moblins in Akkala Citadel area alongside Bokoblins:
- Efficient combined farm (Moblin Guts + Bokoblin Guts in same camp)
- Boss Bokoblin + Moblin combo — clear Boss first, then Moblin
Depths Patrols
Silver Moblins in Depths corridors (deep sections):
- Best Guts drop rate
- Combine with Zonaite ore mining in the same Depths session
Quick Tips
- Spear thrust is the easiest Flurry Rush trigger — Moblins with spears are the most consistent Flurry Rush practice enemy in the game. The thrust animation is slow, predictable, and has a clear cue. Practice perfect sidehopping on Red Moblins before fighting Silver ones.
- Headshot arrow staggers immediately — a bow headshot causes instant stagger on any Moblin type. Open every fight at range with one headshot → free melee follow-up → repeat. This makes even Silver Moblins manageable.
- Avoid the grab at all costs — Black and Silver Moblin grabs deal fall damage and leave Link open for follow-up attacks. The grab cue (arms extending) is unmistakable — backflip the moment you see it.
- Mixed camps: Moblin first — in a camp with Moblins and Bokoblins, the Moblin is the higher HP, higher threat target. Sneakstrike the Moblin → then deal with Bokoblins. The reverse is harder.
- Moblin Horn is underrated fuse — it's not as flashy as Lynel parts but +8 attack on a weapon fuse from a free camp kill is efficient. Don't ignore Moblin Horns when farming.
