Wizzrobe Guide — All 4 Types, Elemental Weaknesses & Best Counters
Wizzrobe Guide — Elemental Wizards of Hyrule
Wizzrobes are floating mage enemies found in caves, ruins, and specific overworld locations. Each type uses a specific elemental attack and is weak to the opposing element. This guide covers all 4 variants, their counters, and how to farm their valuable staff drops.
Wizzrobe Types Overview
| Type | Element | Weakness | Location | |------|---------|---------|---------| | Fire Wizzrobe | Fire | Ice | Eldin, Death Mountain caves | | Ice Wizzrobe | Ice | Fire | Hebra, Necluda highlands caves | | Thunder Wizzrobe | Electric | Water/Ice | Lanayru, Necluda coast caves | | Meteo Wizzrobe | All 3 | Any element | Deep caves, Depths |
Combat Mechanics
Wizzrobe attack pattern:
- Wizzrobe teleports to a new position → pauses briefly → fires elemental attack
- The teleport-then-pause window is your attack opportunity
- After firing, it immediately teleports again
Hit the pause window:
- When Wizzrobe teleports and stops → it's charging its next attack
- This 1-2 second pause is when it's stationary and vulnerable
- Fire arrows during this window, or sprint in for melee if close
Elemental attacks to avoid:
- Fire Wizzrobe: Fireball → causes burn damage + sets environment on fire
- Ice Wizzrobe: Ice beam → freezes Link for 2-3 seconds (makes you vulnerable)
- Thunder Wizzrobe: Lightning bolt → electric stagger + damage
- Meteo Wizzrobe: Rotates through all three elements between attacks
Counters by Type
Fire Wizzrobe
Weakness: Ice arrows
- 1 ice arrow = instant knockdown and vulnerability window
- During knockdown: 3-5 melee hits before it recovers
- If you lack ice arrows: dodge all fireballs → arrow between shots
Environment: Fire Wizzrobes are often in hot areas (Eldin caves). Bring Flamebreaker armor to resist ambient heat — makes the fight significantly more comfortable.
Ice Wizzrobe
Weakness: Fire arrows
- 1 fire arrow = instant knockdown
- Knockdown window: same as Fire Wizzrobe — rush in for melee
- Frozen state (if it hits you) can be broken by pressing buttons rapidly — or hit by fire arrow before it fires
Prevention: If you see an Ice Wizzrobe charging, dodge sideways to avoid the beam. Being frozen mid-fight is dangerous if other enemies are present.
Thunder Wizzrobe
Weakness: Ice or water-based attacks
- Ice arrows: knockdown and vulnerability window
- Wet status (from rain or water arrows) increases electric damage to the Wizzrobe itself
- Standard arrows work fine — the knockdown window with ice arrows is just faster
Lightning risk: Thunder Wizzrobe's attacks can chain to metal weapons. Consider switching to wooden weapons or removing metal armor to reduce the secondary electric damage.
Meteo Wizzrobe
The Meteo Wizzrobe rotates through fire, ice, and thunder attacks in sequence.
Strategy: Observe its first attack to identify the current element, then predict the rotation:
- Fire first → Ice second → Thunder third → back to Fire
- Use ice arrows as the primary counter — ice neutralizes fire and the pause window is universal
Meteo Wizzrobe drops: Meteo Wizzrobe staffs are the rarest — their all-element staff drops are most valuable for crafting specific elixirs.
Staff Drops
Every Wizzrobe drops a staff when defeated:
| Wizzrobe Type | Staff Drop | Fuse Use | |--------------|------------|---------| | Fire Wizzrobe | Meteor Rod | Fused to weapon = fire attack | | Ice Wizzrobe | Blizzard Rod | Fused to weapon = ice attack | | Thunder Wizzrobe | Thunderstorm Rod | Fused to weapon = electric attack | | Meteo Wizzrobe | Meteo Rod | Fused = cycling elemental attacks |
Staff Fuse: Fusing a Wizzrobe staff to a melee weapon gives it the corresponding elemental property. A sword Fused with a Blizzard Rod deals ice damage and can freeze enemies.
Arrow Fuse: Attaching a rod piece (Fused to an arrow) creates elemental arrows without using elemental arrows from inventory. One rod piece can be Fuse-used for 3-5 arrow shots before the Fuse material breaks.
Best Wizzrobe Farming Locations
Fire Wizzrobe Farms
- Eldin Cave (near Goron City): 2-3 Fire Wizzrobes in the cave system
- Death Mountain lava caves: Regular Fire Wizzrobe spawn
- Akkala Citadel ruins: 1-2 Fire Wizzrobes in the ruins interior
Ice Wizzrobe Farms
- Hebra mountain caves: 2-3 Ice Wizzrobes per cave system
- Ruto Mountain cave system: Reliable Ice Wizzrobe location
- Snowfield caves: Ice Wizzrobes in the cave systems below Hebra peaks
Thunder Wizzrobe Farms
- Lanayru caves (coastal): Thunder Wizzrobes near the Lanayru Sea coast
- Necluda highland caves: 1-2 Thunder Wizzrobes per cave
- Thunderhead Isles (electric environment): Electric enemies including Thunder Wizzrobes
Quick Tips
- Elemental counter = free knockout — always carry 10+ of each elemental arrow type. One well-placed elemental arrow against the right Wizzrobe type is an instant knockout and free melee burst. Without elemental arrows, Wizzrobes are annoying; with them, they're trivial.
- Wait for the teleport pause — don't chase Wizzrobes when they're mid-teleport. You'll waste arrows on moving targets. Wait for the post-teleport pause, then fire.
- Staff drops for Fuse — when a Wizzrobe drops a staff, pick it up specifically for Fuse use, not as a weapon. The staff as a weapon breaks quickly; Fused to a melee weapon, it gives useful elemental properties without consuming the weapon directly.
- Meteo Wizzrobe in groups — if Meteo Wizzrobe is mixed with other enemies, prioritize the others first. A Meteo Wizzrobe cycling through all three elements while other enemies apply pressure is genuinely dangerous.
- Freeze prevention — against Ice Wizzrobes, time your dodge carefully for ice beams. A frozen Link near a ledge falls. Keep away from ledges when engaging Ice Wizzrobes.
