Autobuild Schematics Guide — All 32 Depths Locations
Autobuild is one of the most powerful abilities in Tears of the Kingdom. After unlocking the base ability on the Great Sky Island, you can expand it by finding Autobuild schematics hidden in treasure chests throughout the Depths. Each schematic teaches Link a pre-designed Zonai construct — from simple sleds to complex combat walkers.
Quick Stats
| Stat | Detail | |------|--------| | Total Schematics | 32 | | All Located In | The Depths | | Access Method | Treasure chests (gold/large chests) | | Prerequisite | Autobuild ability unlocked | | Ability Source | Great Sky Island — Construct Factory | | Zonai Cost | Each build costs Zonai Charges based on complexity |
How Autobuild Works
Before hunting schematics, understand the system:
- Unlock Autobuild on the Great Sky Island by completing the Construct Factory puzzle
- Open schematic chests in the Depths — they auto-add to your schematic library
- Access your schematics via the Autobuild menu (hold L → Autobuild)
- Select a schematic and place it — Autobuild assembles the construct using nearby Zonai parts
- If parts aren't nearby, it costs Zonai Charges to summon them automatically
- Favorite schematics to pin them at the top of your list
Schematic Categories
Schematics fall into several categories:
| Category | Examples | |----------|---------| | Transport | Sleds, Carts, Boats, Hovercrafts | | Combat | Rocket Sleds, Cannon Platforms, Walking Mechs | | Utility | Fans + Platforms, Elevators, Bridges | | Advanced | Hoverbikes, Wing Gliders, Tank variants |
Prerequisite: Unlocking Autobuild
You must unlock Autobuild before schematics are functional.
Location: Great Sky Island — Construct Factory How to reach it:
- On the Great Sky Island, find the Construct Factory (northwestern section)
- Navigate through Zonai ruins to reach the factory core
- Solve the multi-room puzzle involving moving platforms and Zonai mechanisms
- Receive Autobuild from the Steward Construct at the end
> Note: You can collect schematic chests before unlocking Autobuild, but they won't register until the ability is active. Don't worry if you find chests early — they retroactively unlock.
Navigating the Depths for Schematics
The Depths are dark, Gloom-covered, and disorienting. Follow these tips:
Preparation Checklist
- Brightbloom Seeds — Carry 20+ for lighting
- Gloom-resist food — Cook Sundelion meals before descending
- Stamina food — Long distances between Lightroots
- Arrows — Shoot Brightbloom Seeds ahead to light paths
- Fast horse or vehicle — Distances are vast; build a quick cart
Navigation Method
- Activate Lightroots first — They light up the ceiling of the Depths (visible from above on the overworld map)
- Use Brightbloom arrows — Attach Brightbloom Seeds to arrows and shoot them ahead for long-range lighting
- Build a sled — Even without a schematic, a simple fan + wooden platform carries you fast
- Follow ore deposits — Ore veins often appear near key locations
- Look for large gold chests — Schematic chests are the large golden chests, not the standard wooden ones

Most Useful Schematics
Not all schematics are equally valuable. Here are the must-have ones:
Top Tier
- Compact Hoverbike (#26) — The single most useful build in the game; fast aerial transport
- Twin Fan Speedboat (#7) — Essential for water zones
- Rapid Fan Glider (#11) — Best schematic for Depths traversal
- Armored Tank (#19) — Best for Depths combat encounters
Solid Utility
- Rocket Cart (#2) — Fast ground transport
- Hover Platform (#4) — Large carrying capacity, stable
- Flying Wing (#23) — Long-range gliding
- Sand Skimmer (#17) — Essential for Gerudo/desert Depths
Situational
- Fire Cannon Sled (#5) — Great against ice enemies
- Spiked Bulldozer (#8) — Mining and combat hybrid
Zonai Charge Management
Building from schematics costs Zonai Charges when parts aren't present in the environment.
Charge cost tiers:
- Simple sleds (3-4 parts): 1-2 Large Zonai Charges
- Mid builds (5-8 parts): 3-5 Large Zonai Charges
- Complex vehicles (9-12 parts): 6-10 Large Zonai Charges
- Hoverbike: ~3 Large Zonai Charges (efficient!)
Stocking up:
- Farm Zonai Charges at Construct Factories (Great Sky Island and sky islands)
- Sell ore and buy Large Zonai Charges from vendors
- Disassemble unused Zonai devices in your environment for charge recovery
- The Crystal Refinery on Sky Islands converts Crystallized Charges to usable ones
> Tip: Always try to build near existing Zonai device caches. Many Depths mines have Zonai parts in crates — build near these to save charges.
