Bokoblin & Moblin Boss Guide — Silver & Black Variants Strategies
Bokoblin & Moblin Variants — Complete Combat Guide
Bokoblins and Moblins are the most common enemy types in Tears of the Kingdom and appear in escalating color-coded strength tiers. Understanding each tier's combat patterns and the most efficient ways to deal with them is fundamental to smooth overworld traversal. This guide covers every variant and the best strategies for each.
Bokoblin Tiers
| Color | HP | Damage | First Appears | |-------|----|--------|--------------| | Red | 48 | Low | Tutorial area | | Blue | 96 | Medium | After ~3 hours play | | Black | 192 | High | Mid-game | | Silver | 480 | Very High | Late game, Blood Moon scaling | | Gold | 600 | Maximum | Post-endgame content |
Red and Blue Bokoblin — Starter Strategy
These are learning-target enemies. Use them to practice:
- Flurry Rush — backflip the moment their club raises, then spam Y during the flurry
- Shield parry — single-hit attacks are easy to parry; practice the timing here before facing harder enemies
- Stealth approach — crouch in grass and throw a rock to distract, then backstab for instant kill
Red Bokoblin drops: Bokoblin Horn, Bokoblin Fang, Bokoblin Guts (rare) Blue Bokoblin drops: Bokoblin Horn, Bokoblin Fang, Bokoblin Guts (common), Amber
Black Bokoblin — Combat Patterns
Black Bokoblins are a meaningful challenge step. They attack more aggressively and often carry two-handed weapons:
Attack patterns:
- Overhead two-handed smash — predictable, big wind-up
- Side dash-slash — less predictable, interrupt with bomb
- Horn alert — calls other nearby Bokoblins
Strategy:
- Open with Fire Arrow — staggers for free melee burst
- Prioritize the Black Bokoblin before smaller enemies respond to the horn
- Two-handed overhead smash has the longest recovery — wait for it and punish
Silver Bokoblin — Advanced Combat
Silver Bokoblins are late-game enemies with near-boss stats:
| Trait | Detail | |-------|--------| | HP | ~480 | | Damage | ~15–25 per hit | | Behavior | Aggressive, combo-heavy, blocks occasionally | | Drop | Silver Bokoblin Fang (Great Fairy ★★★★ material) |
Silver Bokoblin Strategy:
- Never trade hits — their damage output is too high
- Bomb Arrow as opener — 3 bomb arrows = stagger → free 6-hit burst
- Flurry Rush on their 3-hit combo — they always do 3 hits then pause; backflip hit 3
- Two-hit burst and retreat — don't overstay after each opening; reset to safe distance
- A Savage Lynel weapon fused with Construct Horn one-shots Silver Bokoblins in a flurry
Moblin Tiers
| Color | HP | Special | |-------|----|---------| | Red | 100 | Long reach spear attacks | | Blue | 200 | Harder hits, calls reinforcements | | Black | 400 | Ground stomp AOE | | Silver | 700 | Extremely dangerous — fight carefully |
Silver Moblin — Highest Priority Target
Silver Moblins are arguably more dangerous than Silver Bokoblins due to their reach (Moblins carry clubs and spears) and larger hitboxes:
Silver Moblin specific attacks:
- Ground stomp — AOE shockwave; jump to avoid (Z + A)
- Overhead club crush — massive single-target damage; dodge backward
- Running charge — charges across arena; dodge sideways
Counter-strategy:
- Get behind them — Silver Moblins have no good backward attacks
- Target their legs — this causes a topple knockdown; immediately rush the head for maximum burst
- Ice Arrow freeze — frozen Silver Moblin is stationary for ~3 seconds; devastating burst window
- Never fight in a closed area — you need running room for their charge
Moblin Drops
| Drop | Use | |------|-----| | Moblin Horn | Arrow fuse — high base damage | | Moblin Fang | Great Fairy material | | Moblin Guts | Great Fairy material — rarer | | Silver Moblin Guts | Great Fairy ★★★★ material — extremely rare |
Bokoblin Camp Clearing — Efficient Approach
Most Bokoblin/Moblin camps follow a pattern:
- Scout from high ground — identify Silver enemies before engaging
- Prioritize the Silver — if one is present, engage it first while others are unaware
- Use the environment — knock them off platforms, into water, or use Ultrahand to hurl weapons
- Bomb in a cluster — if 4+ Bokoblins are packed, one Bomb is worth more than one arrow
Camp loot: After clearing, always search for the chest and breakable crates (usually contain arrows, materials, or weapons).
Bokoblin Skull Forts
Some large Bokoblin camps are built inside Bokoblin Skull structures — massive bone fortifications. These have:
- Raised lookout Bokoblins (archers)
- Drop-entry mechanics (using Ascend to enter from below)
- Boss Black/Silver Bokoblin at the top
- Treasure chest inside skull structure
Best approach: Ascend from directly below the skull structure center, emerge behind the boss Bokoblin, backstab for massive damage.
