Electro Food Guide — Resisting Shock and Lightning
Electricity damage in Tears of the Kingdom comes from two sources: environmental lightning (storms in the Akkala and Eldin regions, the Gerudo Desert) and electric enemy attacks (Electric Wizzrobes, Thunder Gleeoks, Queen Gibdo's environment). Shock resistance prevents the weapon-dropping stun from electrical hits. This guide covers the best electro resistance food for both scenarios.
What Electro (Shock Resistance) Food Does
Electro food provides Shock Resistance, which:
- Prevents electrical attacks from dropping your held weapon
- Reduces or eliminates the stun from lightning hits
- Prevents death by environmental lightning during storms (with enough levels)
Shock Resistance Level 1: Reduces electrical damage and prevents weapon dropping from weak shocks Shock Resistance Level 2: Full immunity to weapon dropping; significantly reduced electrical damage from most enemies
Important: Shock Resistance does NOT protect you completely from all lightning damage — high-tier electric attacks still deal some damage at Level 2. It primarily removes the dangerous stun-and-weapon-drop effect.
Best Electro Ingredients
Foods (Cook into Electro Meals)
Voltfin Trout (Shock Resist +2)
- The best shock resistance food ingredient
- Where to find: Rivers in the Akkala Highlands — particularly the rivers east of Akkala Citadel Ruins and near Lake Akkala. Also in some Necluda mountain streams.
- 5 Voltfin Trout = Shock Resistance Level 3
Zapshroom (Shock Resist +1)
- Mushroom found in: Caves near electrical areas — Akkala caves, some Eldin caves
- Less potent than Voltfin Trout but more widely available
Thunderwing Butterfly (Shock Resist +1)
- Butterfly found near storms and electrical terrain
- Best used as elixir critter rather than food ingredient
Electric Darner (Shock Resist +2)
- Dragonfly found near rivers and ponds in Akkala and Lanayru
- Excellent ingredient — same potency as Voltfin Trout
Critters for Electro Elixirs
Electric Darner + monster parts = Electro Elixir Thunderwing Butterfly + monster parts = Electro Elixir
Best Electro Resistance Recipes
Maximum Shock Resist Meal
5x Voltfin Trout
- Yields: Shock Resistance Level 3, ~5:00–7:00 duration
- Full electrical immunity (stun prevention) + maximum damage reduction from all shock attacks
3x Voltfin Trout + 2x Electric Darner (hybrid — food + critter)
- Note: mixing food ingredients and critters in TotK can produce elixirs rather than food — use all fish OR all critters, not mixed, for consistent results
- Best to separate: cook 5x Voltfin Trout for meals, 2-3 Electric Darner + monster parts for elixirs
Electro Elixir
2x Electric Darner + 3x Bokoblin Horn
- Yields: Electro Elixir, ~5:00–8:00 duration
- Use when food ingredients aren't available
3x Thunderwing Butterfly + 2x White Moblin Horn
- Yields: Electro Elixir, ~10:00 duration
- Extended duration — covers Lightning Temple approach and Queen Gibdo fight
Budget Electro Meal
4x Zapshroom + 1x Voltfin Trout
- Yields: Shock Resistance Level 2, ~4:00–6:00 duration
- Functional for most shock scenarios
Key Use Cases for Electro Food
1. Queen Gibdo Fight (Lightning Temple)
The Lightning Temple arena's dark phase and Queen Gibdo's swoop attack deal electrical damage. Shock Resistance Level 2+ prevents the weapon-dropping stun that can leave you defenseless during the Gibdo swarm phase.
2. Thunder Gleeok Encounters
Thunder Gleeoks fire persistent electrical bolts that stun you and drop your weapon — the most dangerous aspect of the fight. Electro food eliminates this threat entirely.
3. Lightning Storms in the Field
When a thunderstorm begins in Hyrule (visually indicated by darkening skies and lightning), metal weapons attract lightning strikes. Options:
- Switch to wooden weapons (no lightning attraction)
- Eat Electro food (become lightning-resistant so strikes don't drop your weapon or stun you)
- Wait out the storm under shelter
Best option for exploration: Eat Electro Level 2 food + keep wooden weapons in inventory. The food covers the stun risk; wooden weapons eliminate the attraction risk.
4. Electric Wizzrobe Fights
Electric Wizzrobes teleport and fire cascading electrical bolts. Shock Resistance prevents the stun after each hit, letting you counter-attack immediately instead of recovering. Much faster Wizzrobe kills with Electro food active.
5. Gerudo Desert Approach
The Gerudo Desert has persistent sandstorm and occasional lightning. Electro food makes traversal to the Lightning Temple significantly safer.
Rubber Armor vs. Electro Food
| | Rubber Armor | Electro Food | |--|--|--| | Coverage | Permanent | Time-limited | | Set Bonus | Shock Immunity (full set) | Shock Resistance Level 2 max | | Lightning storms | Full immunity (full set) | Resistance only | | Cost | Depths Shrine / Yiga Clan area | Ingredient farming | | Best for | Lightning Temple, Thunder Gleeok | Early game, occasional electrical fights |
Rubber Armor location: Found in the South Akkala Stable area, accessible via a Shrine puzzle involving electrical fences. The full set's Shock Immunity bonus is complete immunity — better than food for the Lightning Temple.
Route: Use Electro food to reach the Rubber Armor location, then use Rubber Armor for the Lightning Temple and sustained electrical content.
Voltfin Trout Farming
Akkala Highlands rivers are the best source:
- Start at Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower
- Fly toward the rivers east of Akkala Citadel Ruins
- Voltfin Trout glow with electrical energy — visible from above
- Shoot multiple at once with a spread bow (Lynel Bow), or use a Bomb Arrow to stun-kill a school of fish
- Each river circuit yields 8–15 Voltfin Trout
Blood Moon respawn: Fish respawn. Run the circuit after each Blood Moon for consistent supply.
