Poes Guide — How to Farm & Spend Them
Poes Guide — How to Farm & Spend Them
Poes are the collectible currency of The Depths in Tears of the Kingdom. They float in clusters throughout the underground world, and spending them at Bargainer Statues is the only way to acquire exclusive Depths armor. This guide covers collection, farming, and spending.
What Are Poes?
Poes are ghostly blue lanterns that hover near surfaces, walls, and ceilings throughout The Depths. When Link walks through them, they're automatically collected.
Types of Poes: | Type | Poe Value | |------|-----------| | Small Poe | 1 Poe | | Large Poe (glowing cluster) | 5 Poes |
Most of what you collect will be Small Poes. Large Poes appear less frequently but near Lightroots and Bargainer Statues.
How to Collect Poes
- Walk/run through them — automatic collection on contact
- No time limit — Poes hover in place indefinitely until collected
- Respawn: Poes reset on each Blood Moon cycle (same as enemy respawns)
- Depth layers: Poes appear throughout the Depths but concentrate near Lightroots, in corridor junctions, and around abandoned Zonai structures
Quick farming loop: Areas near Lightroots almost always have 5–15 Poes in the immediate vicinity. Activating every Lightroot passively nets hundreds of Poes.
What Are Bargainer Statues?
Bargainer Statues are the spending point for Poes. They appear as large stone statues resembling the Horned God emblem throughout The Depths. One is also found on the Surface — in the well at Lookout Landing.
Bargainer Statue locations: | Location | Notes | |----------|-------| | Lookout Landing (Surface) | Well near Link's room; first one most players find | | Central Depths | Near the Great Abandoned Central Mine | | Gerudo Depths | Southwest, near Gerudo Shadow region | | Akkala Depths | Northeast region | | Eldin Depths | Volcanic underground zone | | Faron Depths | South, near jungle underground | | Hebra Depths | Far north, cold region underground | | Lanayru Depths | East, near Zora underground | | Necluda Depths | Near Hateno underground approach | | Hyrule Ridge Depths | Central-west | | Tabantha Depths | Northwest underground |
There are 10 Bargainer Statues total — one per Depths region (including Lookout Landing surface). Each sells the same inventory.
What Can You Buy?
Bargainer Statues sell exclusive items, primarily armor pieces:
Depths Armor Set (Radiant Armor equivalent)
| Item | Poe Cost | Effect | |------|----------|--------| | Mystic Robe | 150 Poes | Converts enemy damage to Rupees | | Mystic Trousers | 150 Poes | Converts enemy damage to Rupees | | Mystic Helm | 150 Poes | Converts enemy damage to Rupees |
Full Mystic Armor set bonus: Taking damage generates Rupees instead of dealing hearts of damage. Every hit pays you. Extremely useful for Rupee farming in combat.
Dark Armor Set (Shadow-themed)
| Item | Poe Cost | Effect | |------|----------|--------| | Dark Hood | 150 Poes | Night Speed Up bonus | | Dark Tunic | 150 Poes | Night Speed Up bonus | | Dark Trousers | 150 Poes | Night Speed Up bonus |
Full Dark Armor set bonus: Greatly increased movement speed at night. Useful for Bubbulfrog hunting, nighttime Korok exploration, or speedrunning surface areas.
Useful Consumables
| Item | Poe Cost | |------|----------| | Sundelion (x5) | 16 Poes | | Brightbloom Seed (x5) | 4 Poes | | Giant Brightbloom Seed (x3) | 8 Poes | | Puffshroom (x5) | 8 Poes | | Muddle Bud (x5) | 16 Poes |
Best buys: Sundelions and Brightbloom Seeds are the most practical — Sundelions restore Gloom-reduced hearts (essential for Depths bosses and the Final Boss), and Brightbloom Seeds illuminate dark areas.
Poe Farming Strategies
Strategy 1 — Lightroot Circuit
Activate all Lightroots in a region (e.g., Central Depths). Each Lightroot has 5–15 Poes within 100m. A full Central Depths circuit collecting all lightroot clusters yields ~300–400 Poes per Blood Moon cycle.
Strategy 2 — Corridor Sweeping
The underground corridors connecting Lightroots are dense with Small Poes. Fly a hoverbike along corridors and steer through Poe clusters without stopping. The Central Depths cross-shaped main corridors are particularly rich.
Strategy 3 — Target Large Poe Clusters
Large Poe clusters (5 Poe value) appear as bright glowing orbs distinct from Small Poes. Note their locations on your first Depths pass and prioritize them on return visits.
Strategy 4 — Farming a Single Room
Some specific rooms in the Depths spawn 20+ Small Poes in a small radius. The chamber near Rutama Lightroot (Gerudo Depths, southwestern boundary) is a known high-density farming room with consistent cluster respawns.
How Many Poes to Collect?
To buy all Depths armor:
- 3 Mystic pieces × 150 = 450 Poes
- 3 Dark pieces × 150 = 450 Poes
- Total armor: 900 Poes
With consumables: Add 200–300 Poes for Sundelions and Brightblooms.
Total to aim for: ~1,100–1,200 Poes total for all content.
A single thorough run through the Central Depths + Gerudo Depths collecting every Poe cluster typically yields 500–600 Poes. Two good sessions and you can purchase everything.
Tips
- Don't hoard — Poes are plentiful. Spend freely on Sundelions and Brightblooms as you go; you'll always accumulate more.
- Lookout Landing statue — Buy from this one early for Sundelions; it's on the surface so no Depths navigation needed.
- Upgrade armor ASAP — Even one piece of Mystic Armor provides value. The Rupee-from-damage bonus makes tough fights pay out.
- Dark Armor for night Koroks — The Night Speed bonus stacks and makes nighttime surface exploration significantly faster.
- Bargainer Statue on Surface — The Lookout Landing statue doesn't require entering The Depths at all. Visit early.
