Captain Construct Guide — How to Defeat & Farm for Zonai Charges
Captain Construct Guide — Zonai Officer Enemies
Captain Constructs are the elite variant of Zonai soldier enemies — the officers of the ancient Zonai army. Unlike standard Construct Workers and Soldier Constructs, Captain Constructs have significantly higher HP, use ranged weapons, and reliably drop Large Zonai Charges (the premium Zonai battery refill item). Farming Captain Constructs is one of the most efficient ways to maintain a full Zonai battery for sustained vehicle and device use.
Captain Construct Variants
| Variant | HP | Weapon | Location | |---------|-----|--------|----------| | Captain Construct I | ~300 | Zonai Sword, Zonai Shield | Great Sky Island, early sky areas | | Captain Construct II | ~500 | Zonai Spear, Construct Shield | Mid-game sky islands | | Captain Construct III | ~800 | Zonai Claymore, Zonal Bow | Advanced sky islands, Depths | | Captain Construct IV | ~1200 | Zonai Greatsword, multi-shot bow | Late game sky areas, Hyrule Castle Depths |
Where to Find Captain Constructs
| Location | Variant | Notes | |----------|---------|-------| | Great Sky Island | Captain I | Tutorial area, 3 spawns | | Sky Islands above Eldin | Captain II | Medium-difficulty zone | | Thunderhead Isles | Captain II–III | Lightning zone; wear electricity resist | | North Lomei Labyrinth | Captain II | Inside labyrinth towers | | Central Depths mining outposts | Captain III–IV | Best farming zone | | Hyrule Castle Depths | Captain IV | Hardest variant; best drops |
Combat Strategy
Captain I and II — Standard Approach
- Shield bash their opening combo (they follow a 3-hit pattern)
- Rush in after their third swing for a free 4–5 hit window
- Repeat; they go down in 2–3 exchange cycles with solid weapons
Captain III — Ranged Priority
Captain III uses a Zonai Bow with multi-shot capability. Priority:
- Close distance immediately — their bow attack is devastating at range
- Parry their claymore sweep for a stagger
- Bomb Arrow opening shot if at range — stagger into melee rush
Captain IV — Full Combat Protocol
Captain IV is nearly boss-tier. Treat it as a mini-boss fight:
- Open with Bomb Arrows (3 shots stagger it)
- Flurry Rush during stagger — 5-hit combo minimum
- Repeat every stagger; never trade hits at equal footing (they hit for 20+ damage)
- Tip: Riju's Thunder ability staggers all Constructs on hit — use it on cooldown
Drops
| Item | Drop Rate | |------|-----------| | Large Zonai Charge | ~85% (primary drop) | | Zonai Charge | ~100% (guaranteed secondary) | | Construct Bow | ~40% (variant-tier bow) | | Construct Sword/Spear | ~30% (weapon used) | | Zonai Shield | ~20% |
Large Zonai Charge is the key item — it refills your ENTIRE Zonai battery in one use. With 2–3 Captain Constructs per farming zone, you can maintain a permanently full battery for large vehicle builds.
Optimal Farming Route
For maximum Captain Construct farming efficiency:
- Start at Central Hyrule Depths (Hyrule Castle chasm entry)
- Navigate to the mining outpost cluster (3 Captain Constructs III/IV)
- Defeat all three — collect Large Zonai Charges
- Warp to Thunderhead Isles Skyview — 2 Captain Constructs II there
- Collect, return to Central Depths
Blood Moon reset: All Captain Constructs reset after Blood Moon. Time major farming runs post-Blood Moon for maximum yield.
Per-run estimate: 5 Large Zonai Charges + 5–8 regular Zonai Charges + weapon drops.
Captain Construct vs Flux Construct — Which to Farm?
| Farm Target | Pros | Cons | |-------------|------|------| | Captain Constructs | Large Zonai Charges, quick fights | Spread across map, lower weapon yield | | Flux Constructs | Construct Horns (best fuse material), Construct Bows | Harder fights, longer per encounter |
Recommendation: Captain Constructs for battery maintenance. Flux Constructs for fuse materials and weapon drops.
Tips
- Brightbloom Seed pre-deployment in the Depths — Captain Constructs hide in darker sections; throw seeds ahead to illuminate the area before engaging
- One-shot builds — A Royal Claymore fused with Construct Horn III + an Attack Up meal can one-shot Captain Construct I and II in a single opening flurry
- Shield parry for disarms — Perfect parry against Captain IV disarms their weapon; immediately Ultrahand the dropped weapon and fuse it back or use it directly
- Sky platforms — Captain Constructs on sky island platforms sometimes patrol the edge; a precise push with Ultrahand sends them off the platform for a free kill with no combat
