Construct Guide — Zonai Constructs, Combat & Farming
Zonai Constructs are the automated guardians left by the ancient Zonai civilization. Some are enemies that patrol sky islands and ruins; others are friendly service constructs (Steward, Forge) that provide resources and upgrades. This guide covers every Construct type, how to fight them, and how to farm their valuable drops.
Construct Types
Steward Construct (Friendly)
Appearance: Blue-green glow, staff, non-aggressive
Locations:
- Sky islands throughout Hyrule
- Some surface locations near Zonai ruins
- Great Sky Island has several as tutors
Function:
- Dispense Zonai Charges in exchange for other materials
- Teach Ultrahand and other ability mechanics
- Guard Zonai dispensers (approach = interact, not fight)
Interaction: Simply talk to them or interact with the nearby dispenser. No combat involved.
Soldier Construct I, II, III, IV (Enemy)
Appearance: Various sizes and weapon types. Red glow (combat mode).
Soldier Construct I: Weakest. Basic sword attack. Found on early sky islands (Akkala, Great Sky Island outer rings).
Soldier Construct II: Moderate HP. Longer weapon reach. Adds shield behavior (raises shield before striking).
Soldier Construct III: High HP. Multi-hit combos. Often carries a Zonai sword with elemental attachment.
Soldier Construct IV: Highest. Fast attack speed, large HP pool. Found on challenging sky islands and combat trials.
Combat pattern (all Soldier Constructs):
- Face Link directly
- Brief weapon raise (telegraph)
- Swing or combo attack
- Short recovery
- Repeat
Counter: Perfect dodge backward → Flurry Rush. The recovery pause after their combo is reliable for counterattacks.
Flux Construct (Boss Construct)
Three forms:
- Floating block formation: Arranges blocks in a hovering cube. Attack the glowing core block.
- Floor slam: Becomes a flat floor platform that slams down. Dodge, then Ultrahand pull the core block.
- Humanoid: Assembles into a giant robot form. Arm and core attacks. Ultrahand the core block on the back.
All forms: Weak point is always the glowing yellow core block. Ultrahand the core out of formation → attack it directly → returns to formation → repeat.
Forge Construct (Friendly)
Locations: Throughout the Depths, near Lightroots and Abandoned Mines
Function:
- Exchange Zonaite ore for Crystallized Charges
- Large Forge Construct: trades Large Zonaite for Large Crystallized Charges (better ratio)
Interaction: Talk → trade menu. No combat.
Combat Strategy — Soldier Constructs
Arrow Approach
Soldier Constructs have a clear weak point: their head (glowing core area).
- Arrow headshot → stagger → free melee window
- Fire or Ice Arrow to head → elemental bonus + stagger
- Bomb Arrow to body → AoE knockback
Most efficient: Open with a headshot arrow → they stagger → run in → 2–3 melee hits → they recover → back off → repeat.
Melee Approach
- Close distance while they telegraph
- Wait for their swing → sidehop → Flurry Rush
- After Flurry Rush: back off before they counterattack
- Repeat
Construct timing: Soldier Construct I and II have slow enough swings that sidehop timing is generous. Construct III and IV are faster — tighter window.
Elemental Weaknesses
Constructs don't have strong elemental weaknesses but:
- Ice Arrows briefly slow their attack speed
- Fire Arrows cause burn ticks (minor DPS addition)
- Bomb Arrows are best for II+ constructs (more HP to justify the cost)
Drops
| Drop | Source | Use | |------|--------|-----| | Zonai Charge | Soldier Constructs I-IV | Refill vehicle battery | | Large Zonai Charge | Higher tier Constructs | Large battery refill; Zonai dispenser input | | Construct Horn | All Soldier Constructs | Fuse material — adds 7–10 attack; Elixir ingredient | | Construct Bow | Some Soldier Constructs | Equip — decent early bow | | Construct Sword/Spear | Drop from construct weapons | Use directly or Fuse | | Zonaite | Mine deposits near Constructs | Forge trade for Crystallized Charges |
Construct Horn as Fuse: Modest attack bonus (+7–10). Better than Bokoblin Horn but not a late-game Fuse. Good early-to-mid game option.
Farming Locations
Great Sky Island — Construct Farm
Multiple Soldier Constructs on the outer ring platforms:
- All respawn on Blood Moon
- Accessible very early game
- Good for Zonai Charge farming when battery is low
Early game loop: Clear all Great Sky Island constructs → 5–8 Zonai Charges → Blood Moon reset → repeat.
Akkala Sky Cluster
More Soldier Constructs at higher tier (II-III level):
- Better drop table than Great Sky Island
- Combine with Aerocuda eyeball farming in same area
Depths Forge Constructs (Friendly Farm)
Not combat farming, but:
- Each Forge Construct exchanges Zonaite for Crystallized Charges
- Multiple Forge Constructs in Depths = fast battery upgrade progress
- Visit multiple Forges per Depths session to maximize Crystallized Charge conversion
Quick Tips
- Head arrow opens every fight — every Soldier Construct stagger-pops on a headshot arrow. Open every fight at range with one arrow to the head before closing to melee.
- Forge Constructs in Depths = battery upgrades — finding and using Forge Constructs is the fastest path to expanding battery capacity. Prioritize Lightroot activation → find nearby Forge → trade Zonaite collected along the way.
- Construct Horns are early Fuse material — before you have access to Lizalfos Tails or Lynel parts, Construct Horns (+7–10 attack) are a solid Fuse option. Farm constructs to keep your weapons topped up.
- Flux Construct = always Ultrahand the core — regardless of which form the Flux Construct takes, the answer is always Ultrahand grab the glowing core block and attack it directly. Don't attack the outer blocks.
- Soldier Constructs drop Zonai Charges — whenever your vehicle battery is low, clearing a sky island Construct camp is the fastest way to restock Charges. Constructs reliably drop 1–2 per kill.
