Eldin Depths Guide

The Eldin Depths lies beneath Death Mountain and the volcanic Eldin region — a fire-infused Depths zone where the ambient temperature is significantly higher than elsewhere underground. Unlike most Depths areas, the Eldin Depths has igneo-variant enemies (fire-charged versions of standard Depths enemies) and lava flows that flow down from Death Mountain through cracks in the ceiling. Proper preparation is essential.

Preparation — Fire Resistance Required

Unlike other Depths zones, the Eldin Depths requires flame protection in several areas near active lava flows:

| Protection | Minimum | Notes | |-----------|---------|-------| | Flamebreaker Armor (1 piece) | Required for lava zones | Prevents lava splash damage | | Flamebreaker Armor (2 pieces) | Recommended | Full flame guard for comfort | | Fireproof Elixir | Alternative | 4+ elixirs per Eldin Depths run |

Note: Heat Resistance (Desert Voe armor) is NOT the same as Flame Guard (Flamebreaker). Only Flame Guard prevents lava damage. In the Eldin Depths, you need Flame Guard, not heat resistance.

Entry Points

| Chasm | Surface Location | |-------|-----------------| | Death Mountain Chasm | Near Death Mountain peak | | Eldin Canyon Chasm | Mid-Eldin Canyon road | | Goron City Chasm | East of Goron City |

Recommended entry: Eldin Canyon Chasm — places you in the safer southern section away from lava flows, near the first lightroot cluster.

Lightroots in Eldin Depths

| Lightroot | Zone | Hazard Level | |-----------|------|-------------| | Eldin Depths L1 | South — safe zone | Low (near entry) | | Eldin Depths L2 | Central — moderate lava | Medium | | Eldin Depths L3 | Near Death Mountain mirror | High (active lava nearby) | | Eldin Depths L4 | Northwest corridor | Low | | Eldin Depths L5 | Northeast | Medium |

The Death Mountain mirror lightroot (L3) requires careful navigation through active lava flow zones — save this for after you've upgraded Flamebreaker to ★★.

Igneo Enemies

The Eldin Depths has fire-charged versions of standard enemies:

| Enemy | Fire Type | Counter | |-------|-----------|---------| | Igneo Bokoblin Skeleton | Covered in flame | Ice arrows (freeze + extinguish) | | Igneo Moblin Skeleton | Armored in fire | Ice bombs or ice arrows | | Igneo Talus | Living lava golem | Climb the top, attack the ore heart | | Igneo Talus Titan | Elite Igneo Talus | Same method, longer fight | | Fire Construct | Flame-charged Zonai | Ice arrows or wait-for-attack-miss |

Critical tip: Physical weapons deal reduced damage to ignited skeletons. Ice arrows instantly extinguish AND stagger all igneo skeleton enemies — always carry 20+ ice arrows for Eldin Depths.

Mining in Eldin Depths

The Eldin Depths has the highest Flux Construct concentration of any region — two dedicated Flux Construct I spawn zones plus one Flux Construct II near the Death Mountain core.

Ore deposits: Notably, the Eldin Depths ore deposits include volcanic rock that sometimes yields Ruby and Opal in addition to standard Zonaite. This makes it more resource-diverse than other Depths mining zones.

Mining outpost overview:

  • South corridor outpost (near L1): 10–15 Zonaite + possible Ruby
  • Central outpost (near L2): 12–18 Zonaite + possible Opal
  • Death Mountain core outpost (near L3): 8–12 Zonaite + guaranteed Flux Construct encounter

Per-run yield: 30–45 Zonaite, 2–4 Ruby/Opal (bonus), 10–15 Zonai Charges (from Construct kills), 1 Large Zonai Charge (from FC II).

Lava Navigation

Several sections of the Eldin Depths have active lava flows draining from Death Mountain above. Navigation tips:

  1. Stay on the rock ledges — the lava flows in channels; the edges are safe with Flamebreaker
  2. Use Ascend through rock ceilings to bypass lava channels from below
  3. Fire Aerocuda Shortcuts — fire-variant Aerocudas near lava zones can be used as springboards; shoot them down, grab the body, and throw across lava gaps
  4. Never cross running lava — standing lava pools can be crossed briefly with full Flamebreaker; running lava rapids cannot

Tips

  • Bring ice arrows (30+) — the mandatory tool for Eldin Depths
  • Upgrade Flamebreaker to ★★ before the Death Mountain core area — ★★ provides enough defense to survive lava splash damage from nearby flows
  • Brightbloom Seeds still work — lava glow illuminates part of the Depths but not corners and tunnels; bring 15–20 Brightbloom Seeds
  • Eldin Depths Ruby farming — the volcanic ore deposits give Ruby more consistently than surface Eldin mining; come here for Ruby upgrade materials (needed for Snowquill and Flamebreaker upgrades)
  • Combined run — pair an Eldin Depths run with Goron City surface visit and Eldin shrine circuit for a full Eldin region completion session
