Silver Lynel Guide — Locations, Strategy & Farming in TotK
Silver Lynel Guide — The Hardest Overworld Enemy in TotK
Silver Lynels are the most powerful overworld enemies in Tears of the Kingdom, replacing Blue-Mane Lynels after you've defeated enough of the weaker variants. They drop the best Fuse materials in the game and are required for top-tier weapon builds.
What Is a Silver Lynel?
Silver Lynels are the highest tier of Lynel enemy — above Red, Blue-Mane, and White-Mane variants. They appear after triggering the Blood Moon progression upgrade (defeating enough Lynels over time) and are distinguished by their silver/white color with glowing red accents.
Stats:
- HP: ~5,000 (highest overworld enemy HP in TotK)
- Damage: Devastating — most hits will one-shot Link without significant armor
- Recommended Hearts: 10+ minimum, 15+ for comfortable farming
- Recommended Armor: Fully upgraded Barbarian Set or 3+ stars on any tanky set
All Silver Lynel Locations
Silver Lynels can appear at any Lynel spawn point after sufficient Blood Moon cycles. The most reliable fixed locations:
1. Coliseum Ruins (Central Hyrule)
Coordinates: ~(-0900, 0950, 0030)
The Coliseum Ruins contains a White-Mane Lynel that upgrades to Silver after Blood Moon cycles. It's the most accessible early-game Lynel location, sitting in an open arena perfect for the fight.
Access: Fast travel to Kyononis Shrine or paraglide from Lookout Landing area. Enter the ruins from the north.
2. Hyrule Castle Moat Lynel
Coordinates: ~(-0250, 1600, 0065)
A powerful Lynel patrols the moat around Hyrule Castle. This one upgrades to Silver late-game. The arena has plenty of room but the Gloom floor near the Castle entrance deals passive damage — stay on the stone path.
3. Hebra Mountains — Snowfield Stable Area
Coordinates: ~(-2300, 2400, 0250)
A Lynel patrols the snowy ridges north of Snowfield Stable. Cold resistance required. The open terrain is good for mounted combat.
4. Eldin — Death Mountain Area
Coordinates: ~(1650, 1500, 0350)
A Lynel near the volcanic Death Mountain region. Fire resistance (Flamebreaker Armor) is required. This Lynel upgrades to Silver after enough kills.
5. Akkala Highlands
Coordinates: ~(3200, 1200, 0200)
A Lynel in the remote Akkala region, north of the Akkala Citadel ruins. Less frequently visited, good for farming without competition.
6. Lanayru Road
Coordinates: ~(2200, -0600, 0100)
A Lynel on the road through Lanayru, south of Zora's Domain. Medium difficulty access, good for combined Zora's Domain + Lynel farming runs.
7. Faron Region — Eventide Island
Coordinates: ~(4000, -2700, 0000)
A rare island Lynel. Reach via fast travel to the nearby shrine. No cover, purely open combat.
How to Trigger Silver Lynel Spawns
Lynels upgrade tiers based on the number of Blood Moon cycles that have passed since you started defeating Lynels:
| Tier | When It Appears | |------|----------------| | Red Lynel | Always (early game) | | Blue-Mane Lynel | After ~3 Blood Moon cycles with kills | | White-Mane Lynel | After ~6 Blood Moon cycles | | Silver Lynel | After ~12+ Blood Moon cycles |
Tips to accelerate:
- Defeat every Lynel on the map each Blood Moon cycle
- Sit at a campfire to advance to the next Blood Moon
- The Depths has permanent Lynel spawns that contribute to the counter
Silver Lynel Combat Strategy
Phase 1: Mount for Maximum Damage
The most efficient Silver Lynel strategy is mounted combat:
- Stun the Lynel — hit it with arrows until it staggers (aim for the face/eyes)
- Sprint to mount — when it staggers and drops to its knees, run up and climb onto its back
- Attack freely — while mounted you cannot be thrown off for several seconds; spam Y attacks
- Repeat — when dismounted, distance yourself and repeat
Arrow tip: Use Keese Eyeballs attached to arrows for homing shots that auto-target the face from any angle.
Phase 2: Dodging Attack Patterns
When you cannot mount, use perfect dodges:
| Attack | Counter | |--------|---------| | Sword swing (horizontal) | Backflip (Perfect Dodge → Flurry Rush) | | Sword swing (vertical) | Side dodge | | Charge attack | Side dodge at the last moment | | Fireball breath | Shield block or side dodge sideways | | Bomb burst | Sprint away before detonation | | Stomp | Move backwards or jump |
Flurry Rush is your primary DPS window. Maximize by using a high-damage Fused weapon during rush attacks.
Shield Parry Method
An alternative for players who prefer parry play:
- Equip a durable shield (Savage Lynel Shield is ironic but fitting)
- Parry the Lynel's sword swings at the exact moment of impact (A button when the sword flashes)
- Successful parries stagger the Lynel, opening a free attack window
Best Weapons for Silver Lynels
Melee: Royal Claymore or Royal Guard's Claymore Fused with Lynel Saber Horn (highest DPS)
Bow: Savage Lynel Bow with Keese Eyeball for homing shots
Fuse priority: Lynel Saber Horn or Lynel Mace Horn on your best two-hander — this combination achieves 70-90 base attack.
Silver Lynel Drops & Farming
Silver Lynels are the top source for Lynel Saber Horn and Lynel Mace Horn — the best Fuse materials in the game.
| Drop | Use | |------|-----| | Lynel Saber Horn | Fuse to weapons: +55 attack (best non-dragon Fuse material) | | Lynel Mace Horn | Fuse to weapons: +38 attack, blunt damage type | | Lynel Hoof | Armor upgrades (Barbarian Set) | | Lynel Guts | Armor upgrades + elixirs | | Savage Lynel Sword | Powerful base weapon (80 attack before Fuse) | | Savage Lynel Bow | 3-arrow spread bow — exceptional for Arrow Fusing | | Savage Lynel Shield | High durability shield |
Farming Route
Optimal Silver Lynel farming loop:
- Fast travel to Kyononis Shrine (Coliseum Ruins)
- Defeat the Coliseum Lynel
- Fast travel to Eldin tower, fly to Death Mountain Lynel
- Fast travel to Snowfield Stable shrine area, defeat Hebra Lynel
- Rest at campfire until Blood Moon to respawn all Lynels
A full route clears 3-5 Lynels per cycle. With 5 Lynels × 2 horns average = 10 Lynel Saber Horns per Blood Moon cycle.
