Endgame Guide — Post-Ganondorf Content & Completion

TotK's main story ends with defeating Ganondorf in Hyrule Castle's depths. But the game doesn't end — it returns you to Hyrule to continue with all your progress intact. There is no New Game+ mode, but all content remains accessible. This guide covers what to do after the final boss.

After Defeating Ganondorf

What changes:

  • The credits roll and the game returns you to the moment before entering Hyrule Castle's final area
  • Your full save file is preserved with all items, weapons, armor, and progress
  • The game auto-saves with a "Finished the Main Quest" flag on your file
  • Main story quests are marked complete; all side content remains

What does NOT change:

  • Hyrule looks the same (the post-final-boss state is a story ending — the world doesn't visibly transform)
  • All enemies are still present
  • Blood Moons continue
  • All 900 Koroks still exist

Remaining Content Checklist

Shrines

If you completed the main story but haven't found all shrines:

  • Total: 152 shrines
  • Use Sensor+ set to Shrine for systematic mopping up
  • Check the adventure log — it shows which regions have undiscovered shrines

Side Quests and Side Adventures

Many players finish the main story with 30-50% of side quests incomplete:

  • Side Quests: 139 total
  • Side Adventures: 58 total
  • Check adventure log → Active Quests for anything remaining

Korok Seeds

  • Total: 900
  • Most demanding post-game task
  • Use Sensor+ set to Korok for the hunt
  • Hero's Path shows where you haven't been — unexplored areas likely have Koroks

Lightroots (Depths)

  • Total: 120
  • The Depths may be largely unexplored post-story
  • Each Lightroot reveals map + provides a fast travel point underground

Bubbulfrogs

  • Total: 147
  • Check Compendium for count
  • Koltin's quest chain may be incomplete — finish for all rewards

Temples (If Skipped)

If you sequence-broke or skipped a temple via Hyrule Castle approach:

  • All 5 regional temples remain accessible and completable post-story
  • Same rewards, same boss encounters

Post-Game Farming — Best Activities

Lynel Circuit (Floating Colosseum)

  • Multiple Lynels respawn on Blood Moon
  • Best source of endgame weapons and Fuse materials
  • See Lynel Guide for the Colosseum route

Blood Moon Farming

  • Blood Moon resets all enemy camps and Lynel encounters
  • Hyrule Castle + Colosseum + Akkala Citadel Lynel = best loop
  • See Blood Moon Guide for timing and route

Zonaite Farming (Depths)

  • Purpose: Battery capacity upgrades via Crystallized Charges
  • If you haven't maxed battery, the Depths are the post-game grind zone
  • Each large Zonaite deposit gives 2-3 ore; exchange at Refinery

Rupee Farming

  • Lynel drops sell for 100-300r per item
  • Gems from Akkala/Hebra caves sell for 150-300r each
  • See Rupees Guide for top farming spots

Completing the Koltin Chain

If Koltin's reward chain isn't finished:

  • His final location requires tracking him through all previous stops
  • The chain ends with a unique story resolution and a rare reward
  • See Koltin Guide

Great Fairy Upgrades — Full Set at ★★★★

If armor isn't maxed:

  • All 4 Great Fairy Fountains must be unlocked (Stable Trotters quest chain)
  • Each upgrade level requires increasingly rare materials
  • ★★★★ materials: Lynel Guts, Gleeok Horns, boss drops
  • See Great Fairy Guide + Armor Upgrades Guide

Filling the Compendium

226 total entries:

  • Most players end with 150-200 entries after a normal playthrough
  • Photograph every new enemy type, material, and creature you encounter
  • Missing entries: check the Compendium for gaps — it shows all categories
  • Rare entries: Gloom creatures (Gloom Hands, Phantom Ganon), Light Dragon parts, rare cave critters

No New Game+

TotK has no New Game+ mode. Post-story, you continue the same save file. If you want a fresh start:

  • Start a new game file (separate save slot)
  • Your previous completion is preserved on the original file

Hyrule Castle — Post-Story

After completing the main story, Hyrule Castle can be revisited freely:

  • All enemies respawn (Gloom Hands, Gloom enemies, boss chamber clears)
  • Weapon chests in the castle reset on Blood Moon
  • The Royal Guard armor set can be collected from the castle barracks (high defense armor)
  • Hylian Shield respawns after Blood Moon if you lost it

See Hyrule Castle Guide for full castle loot guide.

Quick Tips for Post-Game

  • Sensor+ cycling — in post-game, cycle your Sensor+ target constantly: Shrine → Korok → Cave → Lightroot. Each target finds a different type of content.
  • Hero's Path discipline — zoom out the map and check for unlit/unexplored regions. The blank spots are where your remaining shrines, Koroks, and Lightroots are hiding.
  • Blood Moon schedule — Blood Moons now serve purely as farming events. Time your Lynel/Colosseum circuit around them.
  • Koltin first — the Koltin chain is easiest to complete while actively exploring (collecting Bubbulfrogs). If you haven't finished it, prioritize it before sitting down to do a pure Korok sweep.
  • Estimated post-game time: 50-150 hours depending on your remaining completion percentage when you defeat Ganondorf.
