Faron Region Guide — Jungle, Coast & Hidden Secrets
Faron Region Guide — Tropical Southeast Hyrule
Faron is TotK's lush southeastern region — dense jungle, a long coastline, tropical springs, and the Faron lightning dragon (Farosh). It's also home to Hearty Durian trees (the best cooking ingredient in the game), Lurelin Village, and some of the most scenic exploration areas in Hyrule. This guide covers every major location and secret.
Region Overview
How to reach Faron:
- South from Necluda (Dueling Peaks → follow the road south)
- East from Lake Hylia (cross the lake heading southeast)
- Tower: Popla Foothills Skyview Tower (southern Faron border)
Climate: Warm, rainy. No cold-resist required. Rain affects climbing (reduced grip on rock faces).
Character: Jungle and coastal exploration. Less enemy density than Akkala or Eldin but more hidden secrets.
Faron Region Highlights
Dracozu River
Long river running through central Faron:
- Dragon-shaped river — visible from sky as a snake/dragon silhouette (map feature)
- Contains a hidden cave at the tail end (Spirit Temple region connection)
- Farosh frequently flies over the Dracozu River — easiest Farosh farming point
Farosh farming at Dracozu:
- Wait at the river mouth
- Farosh appears on a regular circuit (every 10–15 in-game minutes)
- Shoot a specific body part (horn for Horn, scale for Scale, claw for Claw)
- Collect the dropped Dragon Part
- Wait for next circuit → repeat
Lake Floria
Location: Central-eastern Faron
Large lake connected to Lake Hylia. Key points:
- Zora Waterfall connects here — important for Zora Armor questline
- Multiple water-edge chests
- Korok puzzles on the lake islands
Farosh — The Lightning Dragon
Circuit: Farosh patrols the Faron region, flying over the Dracozu River, Lake Floria, and the coastal areas.
Parts dropped:
- Farosh's Scale: Fly near and shoot any body area
- Farosh's Claw: Shoot a claw specifically
- Farosh's Horn: Shoot the horn — harder to aim, most valuable
Dragon Part uses:
- Guaranteed cooking critical hit (add any Dragon Part to a recipe)
- Fuse material — highest Fuse attack bonus in game (Dragon Horn fuse)
- Elixir extender (scale in an elixir = massive duration bonus)
Hearty Durian Farming
Hearty Durian is TotK's best cooking ingredient — gives Yellow Hearts (bonus HP above max). 5× Hearty Durian cooked = 20 bonus Yellow Hearts.
Location: Tropical forest areas of eastern Faron — several trees clustered near:
- Pagos Woods (east Faron)
- Near Lurelin Village approach
- On elevated cliff-side trees overlooking the coast
Farming method:
- Collect all Hearty Durian from a tree cluster (usually 4–6 per cluster)
- Fast travel to a distant location
- Return → Durians respawn after time (not Blood Moon — timed respawn)
- Alternatively: Blood Moon still respawns them if you've been away long enough
Stock target: 20+ Hearty Durian for reliable pre-boss meal prep.
Lurelin Village
Location: Faron southeast coast
What happened: Lurelin Village was attacked by Bokoblins (Upheaval aftermath). The village is partially destroyed on first visit.
Restoration quest: 7-step questline to rebuild the village. See Lurelin Village Guide for full details.
After restoration:
- Fishing mini-game returns
- Treasure hunt mini-game (chest-in-ocean diving)
- Inn service
- Local shop with cooking ingredients (tropical items rare elsewhere)
Lurelin treasures:
- Ocean-floor chests off the shore (dive from the cliff → explore underwater)
- The chest mini-game inside the restored village
- Korok seeds on the beach structures
Faron Shrines
| Shrine | Location | Notes | |--------|---------|-------| | Tajikats Shrine | Popla Foothills | Ultrahand building puzzle | | Mayachideg Shrine | East Faron coast | Ascend-based puzzle | | Jochisiu Shrine | Southeast Faron jungle | Navigation puzzle | | Gemimik Shrine | Lurelin Village area | Korok Pad combat trial |
Faron shrine cluster: 6–8 shrines across the region. All accessible without special equipment.
Cave Secrets
Faron's jungle hides several caves:
Waterfall caves: Multiple waterfalls along the Faron coast hide cave entrances behind them. Every waterfall is worth checking.
Bubbulfrog caves: Faron has 4–5 caves with Bubbulfrogs. Run the region caves for Bubbul Gems before moving on.
Cliff-face caves: East Faron's cliffs have small cave openings accessible by climbing. Check above the shoreline level.
Faron Sky Islands
Sky islands above Faron contain:
- Steward Constructs with Zonai Charges
- Soldier Constructs (mid-tier, good drops)
- Spring of Courage connection (lore, Farosh origin)
Spring of Courage:
- Located high above Faron on a sky island
- Contains a Dragon Tear memory (story lore about Farosh and Zelda)
- Farosh blessing shrine adjacent
Quick Tips
- Hearty Durian is the boss prep ingredient — before every temple or major boss, farm Faron's Durian trees and cook 5× batches. 20 bonus Yellow Hearts makes every fight significantly easier.
- Farosh farm at dawn/dusk — Farosh's circuit passes over Dracozu River consistently at in-game dawn and dusk. Position yourself at the river mouth with arrows at these times for reliable Dragon Part collection.
- Every Faron waterfall has a cave — this is nearly literal. The density of waterfall-caves in Faron is higher than any other region. Explore behind every visible waterfall.
- Lurelin restoration is worth doing — the 7-step questline is longer than typical side quests but the restored village services (fishing, diving treasure) are unique. Do it after reaching Lurelin.
- Spring of Courage for story context — if you're following the Dragon Tears memory locations, the Spring of Courage is one of the most emotionally significant. Visit it after you've collected several other Dragon Tear memories for full context.
