Sidon Guide — Sage of Water

Sidon is the Prince of the Zora and becomes the Sage of Water after completing the Water Temple. His ability — Sidon's Blessing — creates a water barrier that absorbs one hit before breaking, and can be charged up during the barrier to release a powerful water-imbued attack.

Sidon's Ability — Sidon's Blessing

How it works: Activate Sidon's presence → the water barrier automatically forms around Link. When hit, the barrier absorbs damage (breaking instead of your HP). The longer you hold an attack button while behind the barrier, the more the attack charges.

Two mechanics:

1. Shield Absorption:

  • The water barrier blocks one hit completely (any damage type)
  • After blocking, the barrier breaks — press A again to resummon Sidon for a new barrier
  • Barrier recharge: ~3 seconds

2. Charged Water Attack:

  • Hold ZR (attack) while the barrier is active
  • Water builds up on the weapon
  • Release: delivers a water-imbued slash that deals bonus damage
  • The charge can be extended further for a more powerful release

How to Get Sidon

Prerequisite: Complete the Water Temple main quest.

Quest chain:

  1. Reach Zora's Domain (northeast Hyrule, via Lanayru region)
  2. Investigate the sludge raining down on Zora's Domain
  3. Follow the main quest through Lanayru region
  4. Complete the Water Temple (floating above a massive waterfall)
  5. Defeat Mucktorok (boss)
  6. Sidon joins as a sage companion

Best Uses for Sidon's Blessing

1. Boss Fight Survivability

Sidon's barrier makes boss fights significantly more forgiving:

  • One free hit absorption before any damage lands
  • Useful against Lynels (high-damage attacks), Gleeoks (phase 2 barrages), and dungeon bosses
  • Resummoning after barrier break is fast — essentially free tanking every 3 seconds

Best boss fights for Sidon:

  • Lynel encounters — absorb one Lynel sword strike (enormous damage) for free
  • King Gleeok — absorb one of the multi-element blasts
  • Final boss — barrier provides safety margin during learning phase

2. Charged Slash — High Damage Combo

The charged water attack deals significant bonus damage. Combined with high-attack weapons:

  • Equip Royal Claymore or Lynel Saber Horn fused weapon
  • Hold ZR behind barrier → charge to max
  • Release for water-imbued charged swing
  • Stacks with Attack Up food and Barbarian Armor attack bonus

This is one of the highest single-hit damage options in the game when combined with strong fused weapons and attack buffs.

3. Fire/Flame Enemy Counter

Water-element attacks deal bonus damage to fire-based enemies:

  • Fire Chuchus (water one-shots them)
  • Fire Keese (water instantly extinguishes and kills)
  • Igneo-type enemies in Eldin Canyon
  • Fire Temple enemies generally

Note: The water imbue from Sidon's barrier acts as a water-element attack.

4. Gloom Hazard Reduction

In the Depths, standing in Gloom reduces max heart capacity. Sidon's barrier doesn't directly prevent Gloom, but:

  • One absorbed hit means Gloom hazards that would chip HP are negated
  • Keep barrier active constantly in Gloom-heavy areas for passive protection

5. Fall Damage Protection

High falls normally deal significant HP damage. Sidon's barrier:

  • Absorbs some fall damage (the barrier takes the impact)
  • Not a complete solution for extreme falls, but provides a buffer
  • Combine with Endura mushroom dishes for stamina to paraglide before landing

Sidon vs. Other Combat Sages

| Sage | Best Scenario | |------|--------------| | Sidon | Boss fights, tanking hits, Lynel encounters | | Riju | Lightning AoE crowd control, Thunder Gleeok setup | | Yunobo | Breaking rock walls, Igneo Talus, ore nodes | | Tulin | Exploration, non-combat traversal |

Sidon is the default combat sage for most difficult encounters. His barrier provides consistent, reliable protection that fits any fight.

Tips for Sidon's Blessing

Tip 1 — Re-summon rhythm: After the barrier breaks, immediately look at Sidon's icon and press A to resummon the barrier. With practice, you can maintain near-constant barrier coverage with ~1 second gaps.

Tip 2 — Charged attack against Lynels: When a Lynel is stunned (after parrying or headshot), hold ZR for the charged slash + Sidon water imbue. This is one of the best DPS windows in a Lynel fight.

Tip 3 — Don't waste the barrier on minors: In mixed fights, save the barrier for the highest-threat attack. The barrier is most valuable against hard-hitting attacks, not weak Bokoblin hits.

Tip 4 — Water Temple puzzle callbacks: After completing the Water Temple, Sidon's water control mechanics might be useful revisiting flooded areas or water-based environmental puzzles.

Tip 5 — Stack with Soldier's Armor: Soldier's Armor increases defense significantly. With Sidon's barrier absorbing hits and Soldier's high defense reducing the rest, you can take surprisingly little damage in hard fights.
