Stalhorse
About Stalhorse
A skeletal undead horse that only stalks the land between midnight and dawn. Stalhorses are the mounts of Stalkoblins and other stal-type enemies that emerge under the cover of darkness. Constructed entirely of animated bones with glowing blue-green spirit fire in their eye sockets and joint gaps, they are among the most visually striking mounts in all of Hyrule. Stalhorses cannot be registered at stables — every stable attendant refuses in terror — and they disintegrate at dawn when sunlight touches their bones. They are a temporary nighttime novelty: eerie, atmospheric, and surprisingly cooperative once unmounted from their undead rider. Despite their ghoulish appearance, they handle like a standard horse and require no stamina to ride.
Where to Find Stalhorse
Detailed Location
Stalhorses spawn wherever Stalkoblin riders appear at night, between approximately midnight (00:00) and 5 AM. The most reliable nighttime spawn locations include: Hyrule Field near Lookout Landing (flat terrain, high enemy density), the Akkala Highlands near South Akkala Stable, the Tabantha Frontier lowlands, the Faron Grasslands, and the East Necluda plains. Kill the Stalkoblin rider with a headshot or aerial attack first — the Stalhorse remains motionless briefly after its rider falls. Mount it quickly before it despawns. Dawn (5 AM) destroys the Stalhorse regardless of location.
How to Tame Stalhorse
1
Set in-game time to after midnight. Rest at a stable or sit at a campfire and select "Until Night" to skip to nighttime.
2
Search flat, open plains for Stalkoblin groups. Riders on Stalhorses are common in Hyrule Field and Akkala Highlands.
3
Eliminate the Stalkoblin rider before approaching — use a headshot arrow, bomb arrow, or aerial drop attack. The unmounted Stalhorse will stand still briefly.
4
Mount the riderless Stalhorse immediately by pressing A. No soothing is required — gentle temperament, and the undead nature means it accepts any rider instantly.
5
You can also use a charged Ultrahand to knock the Stalkoblin rider off mid-gallop, then mount while the Stalhorse is still running.
6
Ride as long as you need but dismount before 5 AM or the horse will crumble beneath you.
