Sign of the Shadow

Discover the Shadow Monument in Faron

In the Faron region, east of Lake Hylia near the Bronas Forest, a large monolithic stone pillar stands alone in a clearing. Local travelers near Lakeside Stable mention that the pillar casts an unusual shadow at midday, but they cannot determine its significance. Read the inscription at the pillar's base — carved in Old Hylian, it says: "When the sun is highest, my eye sees the door." The shadow oracle quest begins here.

Wait for Solar Noon

The pillar's shadow shrinks to its shortest point at exactly noon in-game time. Rest at the nearby campfire or pass time at the stable and return at noon. Stand directly behind the pillar and observe the shadow — it stretches eastward in the morning and westward in the afternoon, but at noon it points due north and shrinks to a narrow finger shape. The shadow's tip terminates at a specific rock formation on the cliff face forty meters north.

Investigate the Shadow's Target

Walk to where the shadow's tip points at noon — a section of Faron cliff face that looks identical to the surrounding rock. Use Ultrahand to probe the area: one large stone panel is not anchored and shifts when grabbed. Slide it aside to reveal a carved stone passage behind it. The passage is just wide enough to walk through single-file, leading into a small natural cave carved with more star and sun motifs matching the pillar.

Activate Ishodag Shrine

At the end of the cave passage, Ishodag Shrine sits dormant in the shadows. Approach and interact with the shrine's seal to activate it — a beam of light shoots from the shrine's apex upward through a crack in the cave ceiling, illuminating the sky above. The shrine's interior puzzle involves timing platforms to solar cycles (light beams move across the chamber). Complete it for a Light of Blessing.
