Dragon Parts Farming Guide — All Four Dragons

TotK has four dragons: Dinraal, Farosh, Naydra, and the Light Dragon (Zelda). Each dragon drops high-value materials when you shoot or climb on them — Dragon Parts are required for 4-star armor upgrades and create the longest-lasting elixirs in the game. This guide covers routes, spawn times, and how to get every part.

Dragon Parts Overview

| Part | How to Get | Use | |------|-----------|-----| | Scale | Shoot the body | Elixir duration boost, armor upgrades | | Claw | Shoot a foot/claw | Armor 4-star upgrades | | Fang | Shoot the mouth/fang area | Armor 4-star upgrades | | Horn | Shoot the large horn on head | Highest-value armor upgrades, max elixir duration | | Shard of Dragon's Fang | Shoot the mouth | Used in specific 4-star upgrades |

One drop per dragon per Blood Moon period — you can only get one of each type per interaction (per Blood Moon cycle).

How to Get Dragon Parts

  1. Locate the dragon (each has a patrol route, see below)
  2. Gain altitude above or near the dragon
  3. Glide toward it / land on its back
  4. Shoot the target body part with an arrow:
    • Body → Scale
    • Claw (foot) → Claw
    • Mouth/fang area → Fang
    • Horn (top of head) → Horn
  5. The material drops as a glowing item
  6. Glide down or stay on the dragon to pick it up

Tip: You can ride the dragon indefinitely — it won't throw you off. Use the time to shoot multiple parts per visit (but only one of each type drops per Blood Moon cycle).

Sundelion note: The Light Dragon's back has Sundelion flowers growing on it — land and collect them for free Sundelion supply.

Dinraal — Fire Dragon

Element: Fire Region: Eldin / Death Mountain area Route: Circles in the sky above Eldin Canyon and Death Mountain at high altitude

Spawn time: Active during morning to midday hours. If you don't see it, advance time at a campfire and check again.

Approach:

  1. Eldin Canyon Skyview Tower → launch → paraglide northeast
  2. Spot the large red-orange dragon circling
  3. Gain height using Tulin's Gust, then glide onto its back
  4. Shoot target body part from the back

Dinraal drops:

  • Dinraal's Scale (red)
  • Dinraal's Claw (red)
  • Dinraal's Fang (red)
  • Shard of Dinraal's Horn (orange)

Primary use: 4-star upgrades for fire-themed armor (Flamebreaker set)

Farosh — Lightning Dragon

Element: Lightning Region: Gerudo / Faron area Route: Flies from Lake Floria area in the south → northwest through Gerudo Canyon → over Gerudo Desert → repeats

Spawn time: Usually active in the morning/daytime hours in the Faron/Gerudo area.

Approach:

  1. Rabella Wetlands Skyview Tower or Popla Foothills Tower → launch south
  2. Spot the green lightning dragon
  3. Glide onto its back or approach from an elevated cliff

Farosh drops:

  • Farosh's Scale (green)
  • Farosh's Claw (green)
  • Farosh's Fang (green)
  • Shard of Farosh's Horn (green)

Caution: Being too close without armor triggers lightning damage from Farosh's sparks. Have Rubber Armor or Thunder Helm for comfortable approach.

Primary use: 4-star upgrades for lightning-themed armor (Rubber Armor set)

Naydra — Ice Dragon

Element: IceRegion: Lanayru / Mount Lanayru area Route: Circles Mount Lanayru in the far east, sometimes descending toward Zora's Domain area

Spawn time: Often present at Mount Lanayru peak. Advance time to morning if not visible.

Approach:

  1. Mount Lanayru Skyview Tower → launch → look for the blue dragon circling the mountain
  2. Or: Lanayru Skyview Tower → fly east toward the mountain
  3. Glide onto Naydra's back

Naydra drops:

  • Naydra's Scale (blue)
  • Naydra's Claw (blue)
  • Naydra's Fang (blue)
  • Shard of Naydra's Horn (blue)

Caution: Mount Lanayru is extremely cold — have Cold Resistance Level 2 (full Snowquill set or Spicy Elixir) before approaching.

Primary use: 4-star upgrades for cold-themed armor (Snowquill set)

Light Dragon — Zelda's Dragon

Element: None (sacred) Region: High altitude above all of Hyrule Route: Circles the entire map slowly at maximum altitude

How to spot it: Look for a white/gold dragon at the very highest altitude — above even the Skyview Tower launch height in many areas.

Approach (the hardest):

  1. Use the highest Skyview Tower available
  2. Launch → use Tulin's Gust repeatedly during glide to gain maximum height
  3. The Light Dragon flies ABOVE normal launch height — you may need to find an updraft or chain multiple Gusts

Alternative approach:

  • Some Skyview Towers launch high enough to almost reach the Light Dragon's flight path
  • Time the approach to when the Light Dragon passes near a tower location

Light Dragon drops:

  • Scale of Light Dragon
  • Claw of Light Dragon
  • Fang of Light Dragon
  • Shard of Light Dragon's Horn (used for highest-tier armor upgrades)

Special: The Master Sword is embedded in the Light Dragon's forehead. Pull it with 2+ full stamina wheels (or Enduring food).

The 12th Dragon's Tear is also on the Light Dragon's head — required for the True Ending.

Primary use: Highest-tier armor upgrades (4-star for specific sets), Master Sword acquisition

Dragon Horn — Maximum Elixir Duration

Dragon Horns (any variety) give maximum duration when added to an elixir — 30 minutes per horn added.

Recipe:

  • Fireproof Lizard + Dinraal's Horn = Level 2 Fireproof Elixir lasting 30 minutes

This is significantly longer than monster-part elixirs (12 minutes max). For extended Death Mountain or Depths runs, Dragon Horn elixirs are optimal.

Efficiency: A Fireproof Elixir with Dinraal's Horn lasts 30 minutes = covering full Death Mountain circuits. One elixir per farm session.

Dragon Parts — Armor Upgrade Requirements

Dragon Parts are required for 4-star armor upgrades across multiple sets:

| Armor Set | Required Dragon Part | |-----------|---------------------| | Snowquill (4-star) | Naydra's Horn Shard | | Flamebreaker (4-star) | Dinraal's Horn Shard | | Rubber Armor (4-star) | Farosh's Horn Shard | | Other sets (4-star) | Light Dragon's parts |

Never sell Dragon Parts — they are the rarest upgrade materials in the game.

Efficient Dragon Farming Circuit

For all four dragons:

  1. Morning → Eldin area: Find Dinraal over Death Mountain. Shoot target part. Get Scale/Claw/Fang/Horn.

  2. Advance time → Faron area: Farosh appears near Lake Floria morning. Approach from Rabella Wetlands tower.

  3. Advance time → Mount Lanayru: Naydra circles the peak. Cold resist required.

  4. High altitude anywhere → Light Dragon: Time this for when you need the Master Sword or have Dragon's Tears to collect.

Blood Moon circuit: Each dragon gives one of each part per Blood Moon cycle. For Horn farming (rarest), you need 4+ Blood Moon cycles per dragon to stockpile enough for 4-star upgrades.
