Solid Brown Horse
About Solid Brown Horse
A common solid-brown wild horse found in grasslands across all of Hyrule. Solid-colored horses consistently outperform spotted or mixed-coat horses in stat distribution — the game's coat color is a rough stat indicator, and solid brown is the entry point to good mounts. Brown horses are the most frequently encountered wild horse type and come in a range of stat distributions, but solid-coat specimens reliably trend toward higher speed (3-4 stars) and balanced stamina. For early- to mid-game exploration, a solid brown horse with 4-star speed and 3 stamina is one of the best mounts you can realistically find without hunting unique horses.
Where to Find Solid Brown Horse
Detailed Location
Solid brown horses appear in virtually every grassland region. Most reliable early-game spawns: Hyrule Field near Lookout Landing (search the open fields northwest of the Skyview Tower), the Faron Grasslands south of Lake Hylia near Highland Stable, the East Necluda plains near Dueling Peaks Stable, and the Akkala Plains near South Akkala Stable. Herds of 3-6 horses are most commonly mixed — look for the solid-colored ones without spots or patches. Time of day does not significantly affect spawning. Check multiple herds until you find a solid brown with no markings.
How to Tame Solid Brown Horse
1
Crouch (left stick press) and approach from directly behind. Move slowly and stop if the horse's ears perk up or its head raises.
2
Stealth armor (bought at Kakariko Village) or a Sneaky Elixir (Sunset Firefly + monster part) greatly increases your approach window.
3
Mount with A. Wild temperament requires roughly 1 full stamina wheel of soothing — mash L rapidly until the horse settles.
4
Once tamed, ride to the nearest stable. Talk to the stable counter and check the displayed stats before paying to register.
5
If the stats are 3 speed or lower, consider releasing it and trying another horse from the same herd — individual stat variation exists.
6
A solid brown with 4 speed / 3 pull / 3 stamina is a strong early-game mount worth keeping.
Unique Traits
•
Solid-color coat signals higher stat potential compared to spotted horses.
•
The most common source of "good" horses early in the game.
•
Stats vary by individual — always check at the stable counter before committing to registration.
•
Can wear all standard horse gear and be fully customized with any saddle and bridle.
•
Wild temperament means it may ignore steering commands at very low bond — feed it after registration.
Tips & Advice
•
Solid-color coat (no spots, no multi-tone patches) is the visual signal for above-average stats. Prioritize these over spotted horses every time.
•
Check stats at the stable counter before registering. The attendant shows speed, pull, and stamina — aim for at least 4 speed and 3 stamina.
•
Hyrule Field near Lookout Landing is the single best early-game spot. Fast travel to Lookout Landing, walk north, and check herds.
•
Feed the horse apples, swift carrots (near Kakariko Village), or endura carrots after registration to raise bond and improve steering response.
•
Wild temperament horses respond to commands less obediently until bond is maxed. Bond is raised by feeding, patting (after mounting), and general riding.
