About Wild Speed Horse

A rare wild horse with exceptional speed — the fastest non-unique, non-amiibo mount in Tears of the Kingdom. True 5-speed wild horses have a lean, athletic build and almost always wear a solid dark coat (usually solid brown or solid black with a single-color mane). 5-star speed is exceedingly rare: most wild herds contain 3-4 speed horses, and a genuine 5-speed individual appears only occasionally as an outlier in certain northwestern herds. Speed horses trade pull and stamina for velocity — at a full sprint, a 5-speed horse crosses Hyrule Field faster than any other non-unique mount. Riders who prioritize overland traversal speed above everything else hunt specifically for these.

Where to Find Wild Speed Horse

Detailed Location

The rarest wild stat distribution in the game. Best search zones: the Upland Lindor meadows north of Hyrule Ridge (between Serenne Stable and Tabantha Bridge Stable), the Tabantha Frontier lowlands near the approach to Snowfield Stable in the north, and very occasionally central Hyrule Field around the Eldin Road junction. True 5-speed horses typically appear as single outliers in normal herds rather than in speed-horse groups. You may need to search herds in multiple zones and check stats at a stable — the only way to confirm 5-speed is the stable counter readout. Reload the area by resting at a stable if herds are not refreshing.

How to Tame Wild Speed Horse

1

Wild temperament requires roughly 1 full stamina wheel of soothing. Come with at least 1.5 wheels of stamina total (base + food).

2

Approach with maximum stealth — speed horses are as skittish as any wild horse despite their value.

3

Mount from behind and mash L continuously. Have stamina-restoring food in a quick slot.

4

Do not wait to check stats in the field — always ride to a stable and use the counter to confirm a true 5-speed before registering.

5

If stats come back as 4-speed, release it and keep searching — a true 5-speed feels significantly faster in practice.

Unique Traits

Maximum 5-star speed — tied for the fastest overland speed of any horse except for Epona and the Giant White Stallion.

Lean, athletic build noticeably different from stocky strength or stamina horses.

Solid dark coat (typically brown or black) without spots — the coat color confirms solid-horse stat potential.

Very rare spawn — may require checking herds across multiple zones before finding one.

Low 2-star pull means it is fragile in combat and cannot be used for cart-towing builds.

Tips & Advice

The fastest possible non-unique wild horse. At 5 speed with 3 stamina spurs, you cover enormous distances quickly — ideal for the late-game open-world grind.

Combine with the Ancient Saddle (amiibo or Pony Points) for instant teleport-to-horse functionality — your speed horse becomes a mobile fast-travel point.

Speed horses are fragile in combat — avoid riding through enemy camps. Dismount and fight on foot.

Serenne Stable in Upland Lindor is the best home base for hunting speed horses — convenient registration and retrieval.

Building bond (via apple/carrot feeding and patting after mounting) unlocks the horse's full speed potential — even a 5-speed horse holds back at low bond.
