Spotted Appaloosa
About Spotted Appaloosa
A spotted wild horse with the classic appaloosa pattern — dark base coat with a white-spotted hindquarters and an eggshell-pale mane. Spotted horses consistently have lower stats than solid-colored horses in TotK, reflecting the game's coat-as-stat-indicator system. The appaloosa is among the most common wild horses in the game and appears in virtually every grassland herd. Its low stat ceiling (typically 2 speed, 2 pull, 3 stamina) makes it a poor long-term mount, but its gentle temperament and near-universal availability make it the ideal training mount for new players learning the taming mechanics.
Where to Find Spotted Appaloosa
Detailed Location
Spotted appaloosa horses are among the most common wild horses in the game. They appear in virtually every grassland area: Hyrule Field (especially around Lookout Landing and the Eldin Road), East Necluda (Dueling Peaks Stable area), Faron Grasslands (south of Lake Hylia), West Necluda (near Kakariko), the Akkala Plains, and Central Hyrule. You will likely encounter four or five of these before finding a single solid-colored horse. Herds in early-game zones are dominated by appaloosas and standard spotted horses.
How to Tame Spotted Appaloosa
1
Very easy to tame — gentle temperament means minimal stamina required.
2
Sneak up from behind while crouching and mount with A.
3
Press L a few times to soothe. Typically requires less than one quarter of a stamina wheel.

A great first horse for new players who want to practice the approach-and-mount mechanic before attempting fiercer mounts.

Tips & Advice
•
Use this horse exclusively for early-game travel while you build stamina and learn taming. Replace it with a solid-coat horse as soon as possible.
•
Registering an appaloosa gives you access to stable fast-travel immediately — even a slow horse is better than walking across Hyrule early on.
•
Spotted horses are forgiving for learning the taming system — practice on three or four of these before hunting for solid-color mounts.
•
If you have no registered horse and need one quickly, appaloosas are always nearby. Register one as a placeholder.
