Maren's Tip
Remember — if a shrine gives Rauru's Blessing with no puzzle inside, the real challenge was reaching the entrance. Check the surrounding area!
Walkthrough
- Step 1: Enter Joniu Shrine in the Lanayru region and face the interior waterway system.
- The shrine is unusually dark — the normal ambient green shrine lighting is absent, replaced by near-total darkness.
- Three branching paths extend from the entrance junction, but only one leads to the altar.
- The other two paths end in dead-end drops that deposit you back at the entrance, wasting time.
- Step 2: Throw a Large Brightbloom Seed at the entrance junction to illuminate all three path openings simultaneously.
- With the junction lit, look closely at the walls of each corridor entrance.
- The correct path is marked by subtle glowing blue moss growing on the right wall — this bioluminescent moss is nearly invisible without Brightbloom illumination but unmistakable once lit.
- Step 3: Follow the blue moss trail through the branching waterway.
- At the first junction, the moss appears on the right corridor — take the right path.
- At the second junction, the moss grows straight ahead on the center corridor wall — go straight.
- At the third and final junction, the moss is on the left corridor — turn left.
- Throw additional Brightbloom Seeds at each junction to verify the moss location before committing to a path.
- Step 4: The wrong paths at each junction lead to dead-end drops — short falls that loop you back to the shrine entrance without damage but waste your Brightbloom Seed supply.
- If you run out of seeds, the shrine becomes extremely difficult to navigate in darkness alone.
- Carry at least 10 Brightbloom Seeds before attempting this shrine.
- Step 5: The correct path (right, straight, left) leads to a well-lit corridor that reveals a chest containing a Strong Zora Sword (24 attack power, enhanced damage when wet — one of the best Lanayru-exclusive weapons).
- Collect it.
- Step 6: Continue through the lit corridor to its bright terminus where the altar sits.
- Claim your Light of Blessing.
- Hidden chest: The Strong Zora Sword in the lit corridor near the end of the correct path.
- Only accessible by following the blue moss trail correctly through all three junctions.
- Ability needed: No shrine abilities are required.
- Brightbloom Seeds are essential — this is fundamentally a resource management and observation puzzle rather than an ability test.
- Pro tip: Brightbloom Seeds are farmable from any cave in Hyrule — they grow on cave walls and ceilings and respawn every Blood Moon.
- Keep at least 20 in your inventory at all times for situations like this shrine and Depths exploration.
- Large Brightbloom Seeds illuminate a wider radius and are crafted by cooking three regular seeds together.
