Balloon
Description
A large spherical Zonai balloon that inflates and generates lift when exposed to a heat source such as a campfire, Flame Emitter, or natural thermal vent. Without continuous heat, it deflates and drops. The classic hot air balloon build — Balloon on top, Flame Emitter below, platform in the middle — is the slowest but most fuel-efficient altitude gain method in TotK. Multiple balloons stack: three balloons ascend faster than one. Found in Zonai Capsule Dispensers and tucked away in Sky Island treasure areas.
Best Uses
Hot air balloon build (balloon + flame emitter + platform) for controlled altitude gain
Slow-rise freight lift for moving large heavy objects vertically
Sky Island access from mountain peaks when Fan devices are depleted
Shrine puzzle vertical ascent solutions requiring a rising platform
Observation platform for scouting enemy camps from safe altitude
Silent approach: no engine noise — stealth ascent over enemy encampments
Pro Tips
*
Attach a Flame Emitter below a Balloon and a platform on top — the classic hot air balloon build.
*
Toggle the Flame Emitter on to ascend, off to descend. This gives precise altitude control.
*
Campfires on the ground can inflate detached balloons for one-way vertical launches without a Flame Emitter.
*
Three balloons on one platform ascend significantly faster than a single balloon.
*
Add a horizontal Fan and Steering Stick for a balloon vehicle with both altitude and directional control.
*
Balloons deflate when moving far from the heat source — keep the Flame Emitter close beneath them.
*
Common mistake: the Flame Emitter must point UPWARD at the balloon. Sideways emitters generate no lift.
