Fire Temple

Eldin Mountains (Depths)
Sage: Yunobo (Goron)
Difficulty: Hard
5 Puzzles

Overview

An ancient Goron ceremonial forge buried deep in the volcanic Depths beneath Death Mountain. Mine cart rails snake through lava-filled chambers that were once used to transport sacred ore. Marbled Gohma — an armored spider of fire and stone — has claimed the temple, corrupting the Goron mining operations above. Five locks activated by mine cart navigation and Yunobo's charge attack seal the inner sanctum. The Fire Temple is the most disorienting of the five temples due to its non-linear mine cart tracks.

Walkthrough

1

LOCK 1 (Entry Chamber): Near the entrance, a mine cart sits on a lower rail. Attach a Fan to the cart's back using Ultrahand. Ride it to the elevated platform to reach the first gong. Hit it with Yunobo's charge.

2

LOCK 2 (Lava Lake): Cross the main lava lake by building a bridge from the metal plates lying around — or use Ultrahand to drag a cart across the suspended rail above the lava. Reach the far platform and activate the second gong.

3

LOCK 3 (Vertical Shaft): Find the vertical rail shaft in the east wing. Attach a Fan to a cart pointing upward and ride it to the top. Alternatively, use Ascend through the thin ceiling above a cart. Hit the third gong from the upper platform.

4

LOCK 4 (Rotating Cylinder): Enter the large rotating cylindrical room. The floor and walls rotate — time your movements to reach the gong platform when it aligns. Use Yunobo's charge to stagger enemies blocking the path.

5

LOCK 5 (Upper Chamber): Ascend to the topmost floor. A sealed door blocks the fifth gong — smash it with Yunobo. Activate the final gong. The inner sanctum descends.

6

BOSS: Face Marbled Gohma in the sanctum. See boss tips below.

Boss Tips — Marbled Gohma

  • Marbled Gohma is a giant armored spider. Its body is covered in marbled stone armor that must be broken before dealing damage to its eye.
  • Use Yunobo's charge to smash Gohma's legs — this staggers it and cracks the armor plating on its body.
  • Once staggered, Gohma collapses and exposes its central eye. Shoot the eye with Shock Arrows for heavy damage.
  • After Phase 1, Gohma climbs to the ceiling and drops boulders. Dodge boulders by watching their shadow positions on the floor.
  • In Phase 2, Gohma's armor regenerates faster. Use Yunobo multiple times in quick succession to break it before it seals.
  • The eye is also vulnerable to melee when Gohma is on the ground. Charge attacks with a strong two-handed weapon deal bonus damage.
  • Ancient Blades and Lynel weapons fused to arrows make quick work of the eye phase — one or two hits per stagger cycle ends the fight fast.

Lore

The Fire Temple predates Goron City itself. Ancient Zonai documentation found in the Depths suggests it was a thermal power station that channeled Death Mountain's volcanic energy into the surrounding region. The Gorons later repurposed its mine cart infrastructure for ore extraction. When Ganondorf's Gloom seeped through the mountain's chasms, it corrupted the Marbled Rock Roast and bred Marbled Gohma in the temple depths, triggering the Goron addiction crisis above.

Atmosphere

Oppressive heat, rivers of lava, and industrial Goron stonework intersecting with ancient Zonai ruins. Mine cart tracks criss-cross on multiple levels. The sound of distant lava flows and creaking rail systems fills the air. Enormous stone columns rise from lava pools. Occasional jet vents blast upward, useful for reaching elevated platforms.

Sage Ability — Yunobo's Charge

Yunobo transforms into a rolling fireball that Link can aim and launch in any direction. Can shatter cracked walls and boulders, activate fire switches, stagger enemies, and deal heavy damage. The trajectory is fully controllable — aim with the camera before activating. Multiple bounces are possible for chain hits. One of the highest-damage sage abilities for combat.

Before You Enter

  1. Complete 'Yunobo of Goron City' quest chain — cure Yunobo of his Marbled Rock Roast addiction
  2. Acquire Flamebreaker Armor from Goron City armor shop (1,500 rupees minimum for one piece)
  3. Alternatively, farm Fireproof Elixir from Kima at the Southern Mine (3 Smotherwing Butterfly + 1 Fireproof Lizard)
  4. Descend into the Goron Mines via the chasm south of Death Mountain crater
  5. Navigate the Depths to the Fire Temple entrance — follow the glowing orange structures

Hidden Chests

Strong Zonaite Sword

Lava lake area — on an isolated platform only reachable by a cart on the upper rail

Topaz

Rotating cylinder room — inside a side alcove on the wall, revealed when the cylinder aligns

Flamebreaker Boots (if not purchased)

Exploration Notes

The Depths around the Fire Temple contain several Lightroot activations, Poe clusters, and powerful enemy camps with valuable weapon drops. The Goron Mines above offer rare ore including Diamonds. After clearing the temple, Goron City fully reopens with the armor shop, inn, and side quests.
