Overview

A Zonai water-processing facility suspended in the sky above Lanayru, connected to Zora's Domain below by massive waterfall channels. Sludge from Ganondorf's Gloom has contaminated its water systems, causing the waterways below to run foul and threatening Zora civilization. Four water-level mechanisms must be activated by clearing sludge from faucets using Sidon's water shield. The Water Temple is the most open and non-linear of all five temples.

Walkthrough

LOCK 1 (Ground Level): The central faucet at ground level is blocked by a sludge ball. Use Sidon's water shield blast to clear it. This raises the water level in the central reservoir — swim to the first seal platform and activate it.

LOCK 2 (East Platform): With the raised water level, swim east to the upper platform. The eastern faucet is behind a sludge wall — blast it twice to clear. Activate the second seal.

LOCK 3 (Gravity Reversal): Find the gravity inversion switch in the north wing — flip it with Ultrahand to redirect a waterfall that has been flowing the wrong way. This drains a sludge pool and reveals the third faucet beneath. Clear and activate.

LOCK 4 (Waterfall Corridor): Don the Zora Armor and swim up the now-active western waterfall to the top floor. A large sludge blockage covers the fourth faucet — chain three consecutive Sidon water blasts to fully clear it. Activate the final seal.

Boss Tips — Mucktorok

Mucktorok is a tiny Zonai construct riding a sludge shark. The shark is immune to all attacks — you must hit Mucktorok itself when it's exposed.
Use Sidon's water shield blast to wash the sludge off the shark, revealing Mucktorok. It will panic and try to flee — chase it down and attack with melee or arrows.
Shock Arrows deal bonus damage to Mucktorok and briefly paralyze it. Keep several Shock Arrows saved for this fight.
When Mucktorok is exposed, it cannot dodge — spam strong attacks or charged shots for maximum DPS.
In Phase 2, the sludge shark gains a sludge-pool shield. Blast the sludge pool with Sidon first before clearing the shark.
Don't let the sludge shark drag you into a sludge pool — standing in sludge drains your health rapidly.
The fight is straightforward but Mucktorok is fast. Block your exit from the arena to prevent it from running too far before you clear the shark's sludge.

Lore

The Water Temple was built by the Zonai to regulate Lanayru's hydrology — managing water distribution from the sky islands down through Zora's Domain to the rivers and lakes below. Zora scholars believe it sustained the region's water purity for thousands of years. When Ganondorf's awakening sent sludge through the sky island chasms, the facility's sludge-filtration systems failed catastrophically. Sidon — crown prince of the Zora — joined Link to restore the temple and fulfill his duty to his people.

Atmosphere

Open sky with enormous floating stone platforms, cascading clean waterfalls on the temple's outer rings and sludge-choked channels at its core. The smell of corrupted water fills the interior. Gloom-black sludge pools on floors and walls. When a lock is cleared, a rush of clean water replaces the sludge visually and aurally — a satisfying reward for each solution.

Sage Ability — Sidon's Water Shield

Sidon coats Link in a protective water bubble that can be charged and released as a pressurized blast. The shield absorbs one hit before bursting. When released offensively, the blast clears Gloom puddles, washes away sludge, activates water pressure switches, and deals knockback damage to enemies. Recharges quickly. Essential for sludge-clearing puzzles throughout the Water Temple.

Before You Enter

Complete 'Sidon of the Zora' quest chain at Zora's Domain
Acquire Zora Armor — given by King Dorephan or available at the domain armor shop
Ascend to the sky islands above Lanayru using the geysers northeast of Zora's Domain
Zora Armor must be worn to swim up the waterfalls surrounding the temple entrance

Exploration Notes

The sky islands above Lanayru have several Korok puzzles and Zonai device caches. After completing the Water Temple, King Dorephan returns to the throne room and additional Zora side quests unlock. Zora's Domain armor shop also expands its inventory.
