Lightning Temple
Overview
An ancient temple half-buried by desert sands in the Gerudo Desert, designed around the manipulation of sunlight and electrical energy. Its mechanisms rely on mirror-reflected light beams to power locks and conductors. Gibdo — undead insect creatures spawned by Ganondorf's Gloom — have overwhelmed its corridors and sealed its mechanisms with their hive resin. Four light-reflection puzzles sealed by Riju's lightning are required to unlock the inner sanctum.
Walkthrough
1
LOCK 1 (Entry Hall): A light beam enters from the roof but hits a wall. Use Ultrahand to rotate the mirror on the east wall to redirect the beam to the conductor sphere. This powers the elevator — ride it to the first lock platform. Use Riju's lightning to activate the first seal.
2
LOCK 2 (Mid Floor): Reach the mid-floor electrical chamber. Two conductors must be powered simultaneously — one by the light-redirected beam, one by Riju's lightning. Redirect the mirror first, then trigger Riju immediately after to hit both before the first conductor resets.
3
LOCK 3 (Basement): Descend into the dark basement. Plant Brightbloom Seeds to light your path. Navigate through Gibdo nests (clear them with arrows or Riju's lightning for instant kills against Gibdo). Find the mirror hidden behind a false wall — use Ultrahand to drag it out and angle the light beam from the shaft above down into the basement conductor. Activate the third seal.
4
LOCK 4 (Central Spire): Climb the central spire — it's the tallest structure in the temple, accessible from the mid floor via a spiral ramp. Multiple mirrors must be chained to redirect the light beam upward through three floors. Adjust each mirror with Ultrahand from above each floor. At the top, the final conductor is exposed — hit it with Riju's lightning for the last seal.
5
BOSS: Drop down to the sanctum beneath the central spire for Queen Gibdo. See boss tips below.
Rewards
Recommended Gear
- Rubber Armor set for shock resistance (found in Lanayru — 3-piece set)
- Or cook Electro Elixirs as shock protection backup
- Plenty of regular arrows (Lightning Temple consumes arrows heavily)
- Strong bow — all four locks involve archery
- Brightbloom Seeds for dark basement sections
- Gerudo-region cold-resistance gear for night desert travel
Boss Tips — Queen Gibdo
- Queen Gibdo is a massive Gibdo queen with four wings made of hardened resin. The wings are impervious to all attacks — you must expose her body before dealing damage.
- Use Riju's lightning to destroy her wings. Each lightning strike shatters one wing section. After two wing sections are destroyed, her body becomes vulnerable.
- Shoot Riju's orb with an arrow immediately when it appears — the wider the explosion, the more wing sections it hits at once.
- Once her body is exposed, shoot her glowing weak point with arrows or dash in for melee. Her Gibdo swarms spawn constantly — ignore them and focus the queen.
- In Phase 2, Queen Gibdo regenerates her wings faster and her Gibdo spawn rate increases dramatically. Use area-effect weapons (bomb flowers fused to arrows) on the swarm while keeping Riju's lightning for the wings.
- Shock Arrows on the exposed body deal bonus damage. Bomb + Shock fusion arrows are the highest single-hit damage option.
- If overwhelmed by Gibdo swarms, use Riju's lightning on the crowd — it one-shots regular Gibdo and clears space instantly.
Lore
The Lightning Temple is one of the oldest structures in Hyrule — Gerudo oral history places its construction before even the founding of Gerudo Town. Ancient Gerudo scholars believe it was a Zonai solar-energy conversion station that harnessed desert sunlight to power the surrounding region. When the Demon King's awakening manifested in the Gerudo Desert as a massive sandstorm, Gibdo swarms emerged from the temple's depths and began terrorizing Gerudo Town. Riju fought to drive them back while Link restored the temple's power systems.
Atmosphere
Towering golden sandstone architecture with narrow shafts of light piercing the roof at precise angles. The oppressive heat of the desert filters into open corridors. Dark basement sections are completely lightless until you place Brightbloom Seeds. The sound of crackling electricity from powered conductors echoes through the halls. Gibdo wings clatter in distant corridors.
Sage Ability — Riju's Lightning
Riju calls down a lightning strike at a targeted location. Link must hit the lightning orb that appears overhead with an arrow to trigger the full strike — this creates a massive electric explosion in the target area. Devastating against groups of enemies and essential for powering electrical conductors in the Lightning Temple. The activation window is generous — the orb lasts several seconds. Can be used from horseback for spectacular mounted combat.
Before You Enter
- Complete 'Riju of Gerudo Town' quest chain — clear the Gibdo hive and restore the Gerudo Thunder Helm
- Navigate the Gerudo Desert sandstorm — requires completing the initial Gerudo quests with Riju
- The sandstorm dissipates after activating Riju's mark, revealing the Lightning Temple entrance in the desert
- Shock resistance is highly recommended — the temple exterior and some interior sections are electrified
Hidden Chests
Gerudo Scimitar (high-tier)
Basement — behind the false wall where the hidden mirror is located
Topaz
Entry hall upper walkway — accessible after the first lock's elevator ride, look left
Diamond
Central spire floor 2 — in an alcove behind a cracked wall (use Riju's lightning to break it)
Sapphire
Mid-floor south alcove — only reachable after both conductors are powered (door opens briefly)
Exploration Notes
The Gerudo Desert contains Phantom Ganon camps, buried treasure (use the Gerudo Scimitar of the Seven as a shovel hint), and the Southern Oasis area with rare materials. After completing the Lightning Temple, Gerudo Town fully reopens with its shops, the jewelry vendor, and the Heroines' Secret side quest chain.
