Maren's Tip
Remember — if a shrine gives Rauru's Blessing with no puzzle inside, the real challenge was reaching the entrance. Check the surrounding area!
Walkthrough
- Step 1: Enter Ren-iz Shrine in the Hebra region.
- This is a Proving Grounds shrine — all of your equipment is confiscated at the entrance, and you must defeat enemies using only the gear provided within the shrine.
- The arena is a blizzard-swept ice field with limited visibility and freezing temperatures.
- Step 2: Immediately collect the shrine-provided equipment from the pedestals near the entrance: Snowquill Trousers (cold resistance — equip these immediately or you will take periodic freeze damage), a Frostblade (one-handed sword with ice damage), and two Fire Arrows.
- Your entire loadout for this fight is these three items.
- Step 3: The arena contains three enemies: two Frost Construct Soldiers (basic ice robots with 80 HP each) and one Frost Construct Captain (elite ice robot with 200 HP, ice armor, and a devastating charge attack).
- The Soldiers patrol in a circuit around the arena edges while the Captain holds the center.
- Step 4: Engage the Frost Soldiers first — fighting the Captain while Soldiers harass you from behind is a death sentence.
- The Soldiers fire ice projectiles that slow your movement speed by 50% on hit.
- Taking two consecutive ice hits freezes Link solid for 3 seconds, leaving you vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
- Use the ice terrain mounds as cover to break line of sight.
- Circle behind a Soldier and deliver three quick Frostblade strikes — paradoxically, the Frostblade deals full damage to these ice enemies because the blade's ice energy overloads their frost shielding circuits.
- Three combos (9 hits total) per Soldier eliminates them.
- Step 5: With both Soldiers down, focus on the Frost Construct Captain.
- It has ice armor that reduces all damage by 75%.
- Use one of your two Fire Arrows to shatter the ice armor — fire is the only element that removes it.
- The arrow hit staggers the Captain and strips its armor, revealing its vulnerable core.
- Sprint in and deliver the Frostblade's full combo.
- The Captain regenerates its ice armor every 15 seconds, so you must deal as much damage as possible in each vulnerability window.
- Step 6: Save the second Fire Arrow for when the armor regenerates.
- Strip the armor again and deliver another full combo.
- Two de-armored combo cycles should finish the Captain (or three if your timing is imperfect).
- When the Captain falls, all your original equipment is restored and the altar appears.
- Claim the Light of Blessing.
- Abilities needed: No shrine abilities — pure combat skill with limited resources.
- Pro tip: The Frostblade has limited durability — about 25 hits before breaking.
- Do not waste swings on blocked attacks or whiffed combos.
- If the Frostblade breaks, use the Captain's dropped weapon parts.
- Also, fire arrows can be recovered if they miss and land on ice — they melt a small hole but the arrow shaft remains retrievable.
