Lanayru

The aquatic Lanayru region stretches across the eastern wetlands and mountains of Hyrule, centered around the magnificent Zora's Domain — a shimmering, multi-tiered city of coral-like stone built above a series of flowing waterfalls and aqueducts. Water is the defining element of Lanayru in every form: the waterfalls tumbling from Zora's Domain, the vast East Reservoir Lake holding water for downstream Hyrule, the rain-soaked Lanayru Wetlands below, and the snow-capped peak of Mount Lanayru to the southeast. In TotK, a mysterious and foul-smelling sludge has begun polluting the waterways upstream of Zora's Domain, fouling the water supply and covering Zora infrastructure in toxic grime. The Zora main quest involving Sidon is centered on investigating and stopping this pollution. Splash Fruit is the primary tool for clearing sludge from paths and surfaces. The Lanayru region is also defined by its perpetual rain in the lower wetlands — rain makes climbing nearly impossible as all surfaces become slippery, forcing players to use Ascend, Ultrahand constructions, or the Zora armor's waterfall-swimming ability. Mount Lanayru's summit is one of the coldest accessible points in the game and requires Level 2 cold resistance to explore fully.
